Right??? I mean, there is no reason to delay this one. Bucket game over, announce grand hire...

He is my first choice w/ the pledge of new coordinators/offense. But, I guess we'll know more tomorrow. ugh

I disagree. If it is him it will come tomorrow. However, I figure they would address that they are having a press conference tomorrow, tonight, if they are having one. If they don't have one tomorrow I'd say he is out and they are stuck in the mud. I've heard Spack was on campus twice so maybe that is all they could get. Sarcastic hooray!

I just checked the Lafayette paper and they said nothing that I could find about Fleck and they did grade the team

Not necessarily. Remember it's a two way street. Even with Texas and LSU jobs settled, there will be a few other good jobs that he may be looking at -such as Oregon, Baylor, Houston. Looks like NC State is keeping Doeren (good news). Other decisions are pending.. Can't fault him or any other coach for wanting to see all options on the table. Face it Purdue is not a dream job.

Not sure where I read it, but was Miles demanding too much control and too much change for Purdue's liking? Or did Purdue possibly back away from Miles thinking they had a better option locked up? I would love Miles, especially if he could bring with him the coordinators that it sounded like he would be bringing.

I think that was someone's speculation on here. Not necessarily the truth that he isn't going to be the coach at Purdue.

lol

If Les Miles wants to come here and "change" things, give him whatever control he thinks he needs, and let him do whatever the hell he wants.

Our entire football program NEEDS to be changed! Isn't that the point of all this??

I think it would come tomorrow. I don't think they would have done it before the bucket game as it would have been a distraction. I also think they would tell the team first. If they don't have an announcement tomorrow, Les is out IMO, which would be disappointing.

Remember....we may not be Miles first choice. If we are balancing between Fleck and Miles - that is a good place to be. With LSU and Texas off table - Norte Dame may be the wild card. However, NCAA sanctions may / should put them below us in Miles mind.

Unless given the death penalty (or Purdue rolling in three or four NC's), ND will always be above Purdue as a job to most HC's. Just how it goes.

Unless you are 63 and this is your last rodeo. Miles only has so many years left. Taking a program with unknown sanctions is risky for him.

I agree with your point that ND will always be a more attractive program. Looking at it through the eyes of a 63 year old. It may appear different.

Actually, I think that the ND job is an awful one. It is a 'pressure cooker' job that really taxes its coach. Look at the latest casualties. Bob Davie, Ty Willingham, Charlie Weiss and now Bryan Kelly. Most of them had maybe 1 or 2 really good seasons but everything else was not. Lou Holtz was a little different. He had instant success and within 3 years, he had a national championship. He had a few real good seasons after that. However, the last 4-5 years of Lou's term was in decline. (His rapid success initially bought him some love and time in South Bend. Had Holtz not been that successful early on, would he have lasted till 1996?)
One would have to go back to Ara or Dan Devine to find ND coaches that survived the pressure at ND. Given how most of the recent coaches careers ended, it is clear that there are other high-profile venues whose atmosphere is healthier for the HC. I personally think that UM or LSU are better venues than ND as far a HC job is concerned.

My point is that the ND job is not the 'Gem Job' as some would suggest. If Fleck does not go to Purdue, then I hope he does not wind up in South Bend. It would destroy him. The ND job maybe be better than programs like Purdue on the surface and at first glance. But when you look at its recent history and its casualty list of coaches, one can question at what cost.

And I can totally agree with your assessment...doesn't change the fact that most people and HC's would rank the ND job higher up (in fact probably top 10 in the country) than Purdue.

In fact, we have an instance of a potential hire turning down Purdue in favor of going to Purdue....however I think Purdue fared well with Joe Tiller rather than Bob Davie (both started in 1997).
