I think a win at Marshall is big but not as critical as he makes it out to be. Other's thoughts?

I think much like how bad Purdue shot themselves in the foot at Cincinnati 2 years ago, this game will set the tone and be a confidence builder with a win for the team.

I think it is a must to win over a mid-major program! We should win this game even though VEGAS sees us as a 7h pt dog! They gave up 68 pts to WKU last year! I would hope we are a better team than WKU!

I think it will tell us whether or not the Emperor's supposed new clothes are real or not. These boys know how to win, at least at home. A poor showing will signal to everyone else left on the schedule we are still cupcake du jour.

Marshall plays at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, which seats 38,227[2] and is expandable to 55,000. Marshall has an impressive 118-19 overall record at Joan C. Edwards Stadium for a winning percentage of .866. The University of Alabama ranks second with an .825 winning percentage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Does anyone else hear banjos?

You most not have watched Western Kentucky at all, that offense is great. They have a great QB, Dougherty, and a great RB, Allen. Lost 49-48 to Central Michigan (same team we lost 38-17 against).

Point being, we should be beating Conf USA teams if we want to compete in the "BIG"! Nothing against WKY they are good but not world beaters( lost games to Mid Ten St, UAB ,Fl Atl, and were torched 59-10 to La.Tech)! Still stick to my point, we should beat Marshall! If in fact we can't beat them, where are the wins coming in CONF play.........................

I think it's probably the biggest game we've had in the last 5 years. A ton is riding on it from a confidence, interest, and momentum stand point.

However, if we play well and somehow lose I don't see it as a doomsday like Carmin is saying. It would be extremely tough to swallow but if they play awful that's a different story.

It's a must win in my eyes but there are 11 more games on the schedule.

From a fanbase outlook... we desperately need this win

As many people say that this isn't a big win for the players, this is hugely important for the fans. I don't think we can expect more than 15-20k, even for a good VT team coming to Ross-Ade, the rest of the year if the Boilers lose their first game. If Purdue loses this Sunday, the ISU game could be awfully bare outside of the student section.

This is my feeling exactly. I'm caustically optimistic but really ready to see what we have.
