If Michigan loses the next two games [NW and Neb] their overall record would be 19-12. Would they get into the NCAA tournament? The reason I ask is because I thought 20 wins was a minimum for the tournament??? Thanks.
Years ago there was an informal threshold of 20 wins. But I don't believe it was ever in the committee's selection rules or guidelines. If Michigan loses the next two games [NW and Neb] their overall record would be 19-12. Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Syracuse and Texas Tech all got in last year despite getting less than 20 wins each (all were on 19)
I think there were 8 teams with 14 to 19 wins last year.....not all of those were automatic qualifiers. Syracuse, Texas Tech, Oregon ST and Vandy were selections with 19 wins for example.
