Mel who famously said the Colts should take Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning. Mahomes was going to be a draft bust, etc. etc.

Don't know how this guy still has a job, since he has over and over made horrible evaluations?

Well, here is another one. Mel has David Bell as the 7th best WR in the 2022 NFL draft. This is someone that did not have Bell in his top 10 before last week. He did do a better ranking of Karlaftis show below.

I had a thread before the season, that you find, saying that Karlaftis and Bell should both be 1st round picks. I still stand behind that. Bell is not the fastest player, but his route running, going up for 50/50 balls and normally winning, his hands, body control, etc. is going to make him an elite WR at the next level.

Prove Mel wrong again David!!

Wide receivers

1. Drake London, USC
2. Jameson Williams, Alabama
3. Jahan Dotson, Penn State
4. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State
5. Chris Olave, Ohio State
6. Treylon Burks, Arkansas
7. David Bell, Purdue
8. George Pickens, Georgia
9. Jalen Tolbert, Southern Alabama
10. John Metchie III, Alabama
10A. Justyn Ross, Clemson

Defensive ends

1. Kayvon Thibodeaux, Oregon
2. Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan
3. Cameron Thomas, San Diego State
3. George Karlaftis, Purdue
5. Logan Hall, Houston
6. Travon Walker, Georgia
7. Jermaine Johnson II, Florida State

10. Zach Harrison, Ohio State
10A. Ali Gaye, LSU

Kiper lives to stroke the egos of the SEC and blue blood schools. And that's pretty much it. The fact that he has Jahan Dotson and both Ohio State receivers ahead of David Bell tells you everything you need to know...

Does George need another year to work on another move? Yesterday he didn’t seem to get inside very well snd that seems to be consistent

not that he couldn’t go in the first 2 rounds but would he come back to get even better, and be on the field at the same time as Yanni?

Rankings geared more towards physical talents not production. But there is a place for production.

If those two came back we’d win the big ten lol

There were at least two B10 wr's that had more yards than Bell yesterday

While we as Purdue fans would like to see it, his draft stock value will never get much higher than it already is this year. Reduce the risk and go get the big contract and hone the skills to become an elite NFL DE.

He’ll easily go in the first round in this draft.

I believe a lot of people here also thought Moore was the best receiver in college last year. t's odd you point out 2 of Mel's mistakes, but you don't give mel credit for the times he's right. I'm kind fof tired of always reading about mistakes. As it was pointed out, mel's ratings are NFL projections, not based on performance. If ratings were based on performance, green bay's Love would not have been drafted. period ! His performance was terrible his last year in college.

a lot of mel's ratings - especially for receivers are based on speed. and when looking at the draft for defensive backs and receivers, the top first round picks were also based on speed, not performance. NFL GMs love speed. DB Stokes was a first round pick based on his speed, not his performance. WR Rodgers fell to the third round based on his lack of speed. Based on performance, WR Rodgers should have been a first round pick. that receiver from Minnesota was rated higher than Moore because of his height and speed.

Donald Driver was a 7th round pick. if you go by people making mistakes, every GM, Scout and analyst made a mistake on him, including the packers who should have drafted him earlier.

here's a review of what mel got wrong: https://www.totalprosports.com/2021...pick-that-mel-kiper-was-horribly-wrong-about/

here's a review of what mel got right: https://www.totalprosports.com/2021...-pick-that-mel-kiper-was-totally-right-about/

the key point to remember, is mel's ratings are predictions for the player's future pro careers, they are not a rating of college performance. Sure, mel gives SEC players highr ratings. History dictates in general, they typically do better in the NFL than BIG 10 players. Has Ron Dayne made all pro yet? if not for his speed, would Yancy even be drafted?

it would be nice if Bell became an NFL All pro. I'm just happy to watch his college performance.

The higher the speed the higher the ranking. No intelligence involved in the determination and he'll get some right and some wrong. No value in reading his crap.

Bell is a lot like Jerry Rice or Marvin Harrison - tough, graceful, very good speed, not the best, but great hands and can catch ball when covered, but is a finesse receiver with precise route running skills and highly intelligent. He is going to be a high value pick, in the right system. High Character, all class, selfless team player. He is going to make his new team and community a better place.

Two things he improved on this year was YAC and fighting for tough yards. Most importantly, he ran some unbelievably unselfish decoy or clearing routes in the red-zone that made everyone else better. Go back and watch every Purdue scoring drive and see the quality teamwork there by David - nuanced but devastating.

Anybody that wants to argue about David Bell need only watch the route he runs against Oregon State at about the 5:30 mark of this highlight video. It’s is the most sophisticated and precise route running you will ever see -
A stop and go slant to a post, changing speeds.
