Article from ~1 year ago.. Man, Burke must think we fans are gullible morons. He basically recited these same talking points word for word yesterday, changing the definition of youth from lacking juniors and seniors to lacking seniors. I suppose he can work that angle for one more year, which is all he needs, but he has demonstrated there is no accountability. Legacy be damned..

While Purdue will return nine offensive starters and eight defensive starters for 2015, Burke wants to see more consistent play within the same game from the offense and the defense. The offense, for example, played well against Michigan State and Minnesota, but the defense gave up a combined 84 points in those two losses.

"I would like to see the offense and the defense consistently play at a high level," Burke said. "Last year was about the variability of the play from game to game. This year was about the variability of one side of the ball in a game, and then the other side.

"If both sides of the ball played at their best level, I think we would have been very happy with the results, but we didn't. When I sit down with Darrell, I will ask what we have to do."

Burke said Purdue got better in 2014 from 2013, but he says it must get much better next season. He and Hazell are eager for the day when Purdue's two-deep roster is comprised 80 percent of players with third- and fourth-year eligibility and not loaded with freshmen and sophomores, which it has been for two se
asons.

We were talking the other day about how Purdue's hand was being forced to put out something official. We started with a "source" saying Hazell would be back after the Nebraska game. Don't let that fool you - that was Purdue trying to put it out there without anyone having to say it and have their name attributed to it. Pat Forde is NOT working his sources to find out about Purdue Football after they win a game. Someone went to him.

Then Purdue craps the bed and gets blown out by Illinois and the heat is back on. Recruiting starts to get shaky and Hazell is starting to get asked by the media about job security - to which the answer is basically nobody's said anything to him.

This forced Burke to have to say something. At this point, Purdue has chosen to back him publicly. Don't let it fool you that when an AD comes out and says "this guy is our guy" - that means that will not change in the next 3 weeks.

I don't know what to think anymore. I'm at the point now that I think Hazell will be back next season. I just don't understand how they don't wait until after the season and do a review and make a decision then.

You may be right.. Who knows.. Seemed pretty adamant about giving DH more time and not being impatient like the fans-- some statements he may have to walk back if he ends up pulling the trigger in a few weeks.. But then again maybe everyone will be so glad to see DH gone that it won't matter.. Who knows at this point.. I was one of the opinion they either needed to fire him or negotiate an extension for recruiting purposes, so maybe this is a good sign that no extension was announced.

Morgan doesn't walk back anything: by the time you figure out the answers, Morgan changes the questions.

If this decision stands no matter what happens with the last 3 games, then they've put a high probability on not being able to select a new coach that can turn the program around. And therefore the probability adjusted cash flows are negative. Then we will know that there's a loss of confidence in either selecting or attracting a quality coaching staff. That's a real concern for the future of Purdue football.
