Maybe, just maybe, if Iowa and Okie St somehow win out along with Clemson and Alabama in 2nd, I don't think you can exclude 3 unbeatens. Of course, that is a lot of ifs. You know the pollsters would love ND to be in it.

I hadn't thought of that. Looks like I'm rooting for IA and OSU the rest of the way.

I just don't see Oklahoma State beating both Baylor and Oklahoma.....they've lived on the edge in a couple of games already. I don't see Iowa beating the East Division winner, which looks to be Michigan State right now. But, we'll see. Right now, Temple is the best win for the Irish, but I think they'll get past Stanford.

Oklahoma is kicking themselves for that poor effort against Texas.

it would be comical if having no conference championship game could hurt notre dame, like it did the big twelve last year

I think this is actually what will happen regardless. This is very much a "what have you done for me lately" committee. I also think they'll lose to Stanford.

The problem for ND isn't what others will do or their schedule. The schedule is tough enough, and ND has enough quality wins (and only a two point loss to number one Clemson) to get in the playoff ahead of all other 1 loss teams excluding bama, ND's problem is injuries. It is the reason they won't beat Stanford Saturday.

If we look at the depth chart when spring practice started, they have lost to injury or transfer:
1st and 2nd string qbs
1st , 2nd and 3rd string rbs
1st string TE
1st string cornerback
1st string DT
1st string OLB
1st string nickel back
2nd string safety
2nd string wr

That is 12 guys from the two deep. Before Prosise and Russell got hurt Saturday, I still had hope. Now I just thing the injuries are too much to overcome.

If ND wins out, they're in....thier SOS is high...

Don't be so sure. Unless beating a couple of AAC teams is grounds to make the playoffs now, in which case we might as well throw the AAC champ into the discussion too, then tell me what impressive wins Notre Dame really has. What is their best win? Temple? Is beating Temple really grounds to finish in the top 4 and displace a team that won a P5 conference with the same record?

Notre Dame's best argument is actually that it has the best loss you can possibly have. These teams that will end up winning P5 conferences with one loss will end up having better wins because they will have had to in order to win the conference. If Oklahoma wins this week and ends its season by beating Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State in succession then are we really keeping Notre Dame ahead of them because their loss was to a better team? If MSU wins the Big Ten by beating Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa are we really keeping Notre Dame ahead of them due to strength of loss?

I think as the picture clears this will become evident. Hopefully Notre Dame just loses to Stanford and we don't have to worry about their potential inclusion into the playoffs.
