Wow. Dakota may not be from Indiana, but he is putting on a clinic tonight. It doesn't seem to matter who's guarding him or where he takes it from the court.

Quite a testament for development of a slow PU guard.

We've got the crowd behind us. Let's get that championship!

Not to take a thing away from him tonight, but with Blackmon guarding you, most of the Senior Citizens on here could score 25! That said, Blackmon's on the bench because of Mathias' offense.

Mathias represents the classic Purdue development result. Kid comes in and quite get it done as a freshman and sophomore. Learns to play defense and then the offense just comes naturally. He is playing with great confidence tonight, and it is really fun to watch.
Excellent comment!!!

I think being hurt and sick his first two years really slowed him down!!

He was Bronson Koenig tonight. That's not a bad guy to emulate. All we are missing his Dakota nailing a corner 3 to moves into the Elite 8!

Well, both of you are correct IMO. DAkota was due and trying to make Blackmon play D for fatigue doesn't hurt...as well as being open more without fatigue present... :)

Blackmon wasn't the only iu guy DM burned.....
Yeah, Dakota carreid Purdue's scoring early...Dakota got off to a good start and suspect some of that was who was guarding him and others...just really fine scoring...

Dakota has been my favorite player since I saw him play the scrimmage before his freshman year. Awesome to see how much improvement he's made to his overall game. So glad we have him for another year.

I would like to see similar improvements in Cline's game as he approaches his elder years. I hope Cline continues to take time to work on his body over the summer.

That was sure fun to watch.....guy simply is my favorite Boiler.

He just does it all....D, rebounds(7 last night), and now the O is going. Ultimate team guy.
CMP also calls DM his best passer too. DM just helps Purdue win. Really glad he's a Boiler.

Agreed, but I don't think Cline has the passing, ball handling, or intangibles (Dakota's quick hands on D) that Dakota has.

Cline seems to strictly be a Shooting Guard. Mathias is a combo guard.

I've said this before, but when you are at the game and see how hard Dakota works on defense it's amazing he has anything left for the offensive end. His off the ball work on defense is a thing of beauty for someone who appreciates good defense. Love the way he plays the game.

I tried to make it a point to follow that more last night, to the extent possible with the TV broadcast....definitely putting forth the effort.

Exactly he usually takes the other teams best scorer other than a center.Nobody on the team works harder on both ends of the floor than Dakota nobody!!!!!

He is the best passer somewhat because of his court awareness and somewhat due to his working at it. He does the extra dribble to set you up...he does the pass fake, the shot fake....he works the D and then works himself to get a good angle. STill, it slipped out of his hands once last night and other members made some poor post passes. Guys when a guy is posting and pushing or holding with some pressure in one direction, take the ball to him so he does NOT have to lose the position he established to get the pass. I was glad to see a couple of bounce passes into the post last night

He is starting to remind me of Randy Wittman, not sure I could give him a better compliment then that.....
Ya know...never thought about that...probably a pretty good comparison...maybe an edge on D to Dakota?

Yeah, Whittman was somewhat underrated and overshadowed, but he was a great shooter and baller. IIRC, he was POY in '83....think he came back from a serious knee injury his sophomore year as well.

I think he averaged about 20 his senior year. Good player (that I hated at the time). If Dakota even comes close to his offensive numbers next year we will be in good shape!
