Very deserving...probably more so in light of the player that he has become at that end relative to the player that he was when he arrived.

I think Happ will ultimately win the award, but, no doubt that Mathias is deserving and has been exceptionally good for Purdue this year on the defensive end.

Agreed that Happ will win it and probably deservedly so.

Dakota's season thus far has reminded me quite a bit of Rapheal's junior year when he did the same to several of the B1G's best offensive players. Davis was more athletic so he forced more turnovers but Dakota has to be pretty frustrating.

There were countless times yesterday when Blackmon went through screens and across the court and received the pass to turn around and find Mathias in his face. Just great scouting and effort.

He's been very good, but I think Haap has been better and will probably get DPOY with Biggie getting POY. Haap had 2 tremendous plays on D last night in the OT to preserve the win. I also think CE is a future DPOY. He almost had 3 or 4 steals last night that were Kramer-esque. He just needs to direct his deflections a little more so they don't go out of bounds.

By "future" you mean next year when he is a senior. I'll take that!

I hope people remember this when they look at a freshman like Mathias and PJ and write them off as freshman with the old "What you see is what you get". Those people thought that Mathias was always going to be a defensive liability and that PJ would never be a B1G starting PG type player.

This is not meant to be an I-told-you-so post. But if you read it that way, and are offended by it, then hopefully you'll think about these guys before you write off another freshman.
