Mass Shootings in America: Anatomy of a Hyped Statistic

You couldn't be more wrong about Adam Lanza, gr8. His mother and father did not get his mental illness properly treated and his mother bought the weapons and had him trained with the weapons that he eventually used to kill her and 26 other innocent kids, teachers, and administrators at Sandy Hook School. There is evidence that his form of autism and schizophrenia may be linked.

Is this just regurgitation of conservative "talking points"?

As I said in the other thread about mental health... THIS is precisely why "Fixing mental health" is a red herring. You'll never get it right because parents will be in denial and others cannot or will not self-diagnose. Thus you will - ALWAYS - have people out there with access to weapons who should not have it if you try to address "mental health." Red herring.

Since we are talking about rhetorical devices...

Mental health care and proper reporting isn't a red herring. It is an avenue that can reduce gun violence. To ignore that fact brings in to question ulterior motives as well as whether or not you understand the problem enough to be considered a serious actor in the conversation.

Mental health care and reporting is a mainstream position, supported by both sides of the discussion. Claiming otherwise sets you on the outside of practical policy discussion.
