The super-athletic Kentucky big has taken his name out of the NBA Draft, but will transfer from Kentucky for his final season. I don't know if he would be immediately eligible (would be a true senior), but he would definitely make the frontline more athletic. The tweet says he wouldn't be immediately eligible, but then says he's close to graduating, so that leads me to believe that there's still a possibility of him graduating this summer.

Here are some of his career stats at Kentucky: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/66612/marcus-lee

Be surprised if he is interested in Purdue.....and even way more surprised if Painter can amass the fortitude and sales ability to land him as this kid is an out of state McDAA as Painter has no track record with out of state McDAAs. An out of state player of that caliber, IF they look @ the B1G at all seem to be interested in MSU or OSU.

Anyway says he wants to go West to be closer to family.

He would be perfect for us. He only hits 40% of his free throws.

Location aside, I could see where it would make alot of sense for him to check out Purdue, particularly if he does have to sit out a year. After next year, there's a good chance we'll have some minutes available in the front court. You figure Swanigan will go regardless next year and Haas will probably go through the process.

Yes, hypothetically, he would most likely be the worst free-throw shooter on the team BUT he would most likely be the most athletic player on the team as well. He can block shots (probably the only real rim-protector type on the team), rebound, and those numbers would go up at Purdue, as I imagine he could average between 15-20 MPG next season if he chose the Boilers.

He went to KY to I doubt he has any real interest in academics. My guess is he takes a year off, works with an agent, and re-renters next year.

No! Too much baggage IMHKO.

These are both ignorant assumptions. Lee has already said he's transferring, so no, he's not taking a year off.

He's too much baggage? Lol, what's his baggage?

Watched him for three years at UK. Never saw any reason he should be rejected because of any "baggage". He had some unbelievable Sports Center-type slams and put backs, but for the most part couldn't hit a shot from outside the charge circle (and especially from the FT line--Cal would never play him in the end of close games because of that alone). He could also be foul-prone for the limited minutes he played. On by far weakest UK front line in Cal's tenure, he was only able to earn 22 minutes a game (~6 pts, ~6 RBs per game average) last season (after only 6 and 11 mpg his first two years), and that was padded when Cal benched Skal for much of several games mid-season.

Unless he really expands his game during his year out as a transfer, I can't imagine him adding more than JT already gives us as a solid athletic front line backup, and Taylor has already shown he can shoot too. I'd definitely take a pass on Lee.

He would provide a defensive anchor. At any rate, if he has to sit out a year, I'd probably agree with you. If not, I'd be happy to see him in gold & black.

He definitely has to sit out a year. Plays again in 2017-18 season with only that season of eligibility left before he hopes he can make an NBA roster.

IMHO unless his game and physicality progresses a LOT , he'll probably put up some hightlight dunks in Europe for some pro $$$, but NBA is unlikely. Also he'd already be 25 years old by the time that first pro season starts. Think about how that has (reportedly) limited AJ's value in some teams' opinions, and AJ will "only" be turning 24 when this NBA season starts. And AJ is an order of magnitude better all-around pro prospect than Lee is now.

If Purdue is going after him, then sitting out a year should make it more attractive to him. He would compete every day with and against a very good front line, and when he's eligible the following year, it is very likely that those positions will open up.

Looks like he may be going to play nearer his home (San Francisco) at UC Berkeley for Cuonzo! Guess that means he still wants to be playing for a "Cal";).

It will be interesting to watch his progress there, and whether Cuonzo can continue his high level recruiting. If so, it could result in Lee potentially getting recruited over again, like what happened to him at UK. Or, will he improve enough to star in the Pac-12 (arguably a tougher road than the SEC) for his final season of college ball?
