Are there any plans for there to be a midnight madness type of event this year? I know the last one was in 2012 and it was okay but I think this year would generate better attendance. A good portion of the fanbase are always talking about the players, especially Biggie. Just give him or Haas the mic when the activities are going on (slam-dunk contest, etc.) and I think it would go well.

Could you imagine Painter doing something like this?: http://www.espn.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/on-the-trail/insider/post?id=16268 (hint: Bill Self photo at top of page)

Haven't heard anything. I really hope we don't. It's not a real practice anyway. Would rather they just hold a regular practice and get to work.

These things only work if you pack the house. And Prdue fans haven't done that for Mackey Madness in more than 20 years.

It did alright in 2012 and this season's team is projected to be much better than that team, so I believe it would pack Mackey (or come very close) if they decide to do it.

I was at the 2012 and thought it was a trainwreck. The Dirk Hunter "surprise" was terrible and the crowd was nowhere near what it needed to be.

It wasn't terrible. It was alright. What were you expecting? Honestly, did you have specific expectations for it in 2012? Were you expecting professional comedians and gags to along with the hoops? What would you do instead if you were charge of planning Mackey Madness? If you didn't have any specific expectations, you're slamming just to slam it, like so many others do with various topics.

Midnight Madness events are supposed to be light-hearted: I can imagine you at the 2012 event: "I can't believe D.J. Byrd did that (tried to have fun with it and be humorous). I am appalled! Midnight Madness is a serious tradition with unwritten rules in place!" On these boards, you come off as sanctimonious and holier-than-thou.

I expect that if Purdue is ever going to have Midnight Madness and host recruits, the place needs to be damn close to a sellout and an electric atmosphere. Without that, MM can be more detrimental than helpful and Purdue obviously needs to put it's best foot forward to recruit the type of talent we all want wearing black and gold.

Unfortunately, what I expected in 2012 wasn't much better than what I got....and that's just not good enough.

It's a shame with a preseason top 10ish team, that there is little expectation of a good fan turnout to a MM type event, no matter how corny some are - and why make it corny?! A quick 3pt and dunk contest followed by live scrimmage would be all that's needed right?

That may not hurt recruiting much, but the apparent lack of fan enthusiasm does not help it any unfortunately
