Lunardi has PU #5 in Midwest

Joe isn't good at seeding.
I didn't think so but a quick search didn't give me any stats on it. I know he gets the teams at like 98% but that isn't nearly as hard as seeding and placement. Just curious how well he has done with that. Maybe he doesn't even really try to get that right and just touts the accuracy of the teams selected??

Last year was a great year for him in seeding and he got about 40 of them right. Some years he is less than 20 right. Given that most fans could project probably 40, he isn't very good. Forget placement, none of the bracket guys are able to do that very well.

PU and Virginia in a 2nd round game could be very ugly!

I know Joe gets most of the teams right, but are there any stats on placement/seeding? He has Wisconsin as a #6 playing in Milwaukee. I can't imagine the committee actually doing that to the #3 seed.

I don't really know why he has Purdue's stock falling. After the Michigan game? Sure. But shouldn't still be falling...

I posted this in a previous thread (last week I think) in support of Heller. It didn't go over too well, but here you go, Dry.

Apparently Virginia can lose as many games as they want and still be a 4 seed. They also refuse to let them drop out of the rankings.

They just beat the "mighty" Tarheels at home this week. It is the ACC-bump this year. Losses don't hurt you, and if you get a big win (even at home)....just start singing:

"We uh Movin on Up.....to a High Seed....."

3 games in a row - Penn State, Michigan and IU - where Purdue has looked less than stellar. I agree that "a win is a win," but Purdue definitely needs to pick up its play.

Well yes, but Lunardi ain't watching teams play, he's looking at wins and losses. There's way too many moving parts.

I'm the opposite of most of you and think Virginia is a good matchup for us. We always matched up better with the old Wisconsin teams that grind out wins the rest of the Big Ten struggled with and I was really disappointed when our game was switched to Louisville instead of playing Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. I do think being listed as a 5 is pretty insulting at this point though and solely using the RPI is the only justification for that seed.

Lunardi is a blow hard. I have no clue how he become an "expert" on this, but it sure wasn't his ability to be anywhere close to correct.

Then add into the fact that when I've seen him, he has the TV presence of a rock, really no clue why people keep going to him.

The behemoth that is ESPN and its network reach. Candidly, I had fallen into that trap and have recently looked more at Palm and others. BTN had Palm on last night.

ESPN is such a joke overall, I can't see how anyone even watches their programming anymore.
I'm not going to argue the "joke" part. I would just say that as a crazy fan of college basketball it is "impossible" for me not to watch the ESPN networks. Each week they have the games that as a fan I want to see. I watch BTN, FS1, FS2 and CBS Sports Network and even the Root network occasionally. But ESPN by far has the best collection of games. I can't stand some of the announcers or "experts" but I tolerate that because of the game content they control including PU games. Are you saying you don't watch ESPN games?

Totally agree. I wouldn't watch ESPN at all if I could get away with it but the fact is Purdue is shown on there along with many other games I'm interested in watching. I only watch it for actual sporting events but don't tune in to any of their other shows.

Once they went to this recent SC @ 6 thing, I think ESPN has fully jumped off the deep end. I saw the promos for it and it appears they are trying to be what Chelsea Handler was on Chelsea Lately with skits and comedy instead of just letting the guys/gals be sports casters. Just be the best damned sports news provider and be happy with it...don't try to become what ever FS1 attempts to put on their tv for sports news.

I think Virginia would be a nightmare match up for Purdue.

I would also disagree with this thought process. i think Virginia would be a great matchup because it isn't overly athletic or dangerous from the outside. The pack line defense also lends itself to giving up 3s, which is something Purdue is going to have to do well to advance. Biggie and Haas would need to be willing passers but I would feel good about Purdue's chances in this hypothetical game.

I agree on Virginia. I have a lot of respect for Tony Bennett, but I don't see a lot to fear in Virginia. Will be a tough game, no doubt, but any opponent in the Round of 32 will be tough.

I don't think that a 5 seed is so unrealistic for Purdue. As others have pointed out, it's not like Purdue has been lights out over the past three games. The only other possibility is a 4.

I'm still of the opinion that -- without considering location and match-ups -- if Purdue can't get a top-3 seed (and that's probably out), then I'd rather have a 6.

Call me crazy, but I've always liked the 3/6 line for a dark-horse run. IIRC, the last time Purdue appeared in a Regional Final ('00) and "gasp" the Final Four ('80), the Boilers were a 6-seed. As a bit of a disclaimer, in '80 Purdue was able to play the first two rounds at Mackey Arena.

Very true. Purdue has had two great runs as a 6 seed. But, Purdue was also a 6 in '86 when we lost to 11-seeded LSU on their home floor. I seem to recall that game went into overtime. Just one of the many NCAA tournament frustrations during Keady's early years.

and LSU made it all the way to the FF that year.

I will definitely watch sporting events when they are on ESPN, I really don't mind their announcers for the games either. It's the content of their sports shows that bugs me. Stephen Smith and Shannon Sharpe arguing as if their life was at stake about Draymond Green trash talking the world is just not appetizing to me. All of ESPN has turned into an NBA TMZ for that matter.
