Linc Darner

He did not age well, but he sure can coach. Won the D2 nation al championship last year. Heading to the big dance in his first year. Good luck to "the missing Linc" as we use to call him when he was at Purdue.

wow, gained a ton of weight, hasn't he.....The years have been really un-kind to our boy Linc, eating a few burger king triples lately Linc-ee baby!!! :) Great win over Wright State tonight and looks to have the talent for a semi-deep run. Those kids play HARD for him. Linc doing a yo-mans job. They have upset their way to the NCAA's and single-handedly taken VALPO and Bryce Drew right out of the NCAA. They are officially out now according to many bracketologists. Stick a fork in Valpo. Sounds like a name of a dog food anyway.

Thought I was looking at Marty Simmons at Evansville.

Marty Simmons has really turned into his nick-name, wasn't it the Mule or something. He looks like he's been having deep-fried meals at home with a sub-zero deep-fry machine (Retials for 12,999.00 (USD))
Simmons and Drew got eliminated from NCAA tournament for not having their players ready for their respective tournaments. There is NO excuse for how their teams performed, NONE. They took away a once in a lifetime chance for their players to go to the big dance, for their fans to travel to the big dance and party and eat great deep-fried food, and for the parents of said players to enjoy what they thought was a promise by their coaches to get them to the big dance. Shameful.

I mean, Simmons' team lost on a buzzer beater in the MVC championship game to UNI. UNI beat some very good teams this year.

I am not sure how you say that Valpo wasn't prepared for a the Horizon League tournament??? Got beat by the team that ended up winning it. They played a team that was hot at the right time.

In the postgame interview, he talked about his offensive philosophy with his teams, and it sounded quite contrarian to the Gene Keady style of halfcourt offense:

Darner did play less and less in his junior and senior seasons at Purdue then he did in his freshman and sophomore seasons, so maybe he lost confidence as a player in relation to how he was coached and wanted to make sure that if he went into coaching, he wouldn't do it that way.

I saw the interview as well yesterday and thought the exact same thing. Not sure if his Green Bay team plays anything like his National Champion Division 2 team (it doesn't seem that way based on the game highlights), but his D2 team was full court pressing and jacking up 3s.

Darner seems to have the philosophy for guys to play within themselves, but play with *confidence*/looseness yet play hard. His players seem to love him and they seem to respond well to him. He doesn't seem to have such a tight reign of control that Keady had or most in the Keady coaching tree have.

He seems to have a lot of success with it!

Perhaps his thought process is the weight of an over-bearing coach deters from a player's optimal performance. At the same time, he has to maintain some type of control and structure, otherwise, it's just pick-up ball (which clearly his teams don't do). I kinda like it.

I think Darner is the only one that doesn't have a similar offensive philosophy to Coach Keady. He does have a DII National Championship. Maybe greater things are ahead for his teams.

A lot of a coaches philosophy is dependent upon what he can recruit. It's easy to say Darner does this and Painter does the opposite, but if you give Darner Painters roster, he isn't pressing and jacking threes all day. He also doesn't turn it down. He would adjust to his talent pool.

I wasn't stating that Darner and Painter are opposites in coaching philosophy as much as I stating that Darner and Keady are opposites in offensive philosophy, particularly when it comes to the time an open shot is taken.

If had the size Purdue had he too would spend the time it took to probe the middle!

Darner is a good coach period and won't be mid major long.

Darner needs to get a really good opportunity somewhere , big ten would be good for him. crean sucks but IU loves tanned clowns who clap and yap, otherwise he would be good for IU, but that would be blasphemous.

Really? Dumb comment. I went to look at the pix and he has gained weight from his playing days, sure, but who hasn't. From the comments I expected him to look like Chris Christy before weight loss. Really off base comments

LOL, so true,,,,Chris Christy....nice. can't believe you dropped that name. Give credit where credit is due. I think he CAN make a run unlike yourself you think my comments are off-base. Well, just wait until the tourney starts before you start slamming Linc and his team.

Uh, Honey Badger. I think he means your comments about Linc's weight are un-necessary and rude. Most of us gain weight as we get older. Most of us don't have anonymous persons on public forums making unkind comments about it though.

it wasn't unkind, I compared him to Marty Simmons who is known as the MULE and some folks are just heavy pounding eaters. that's just who they are, you know, like double whoppers, triple steakburgers, yum (at steak n shake), things like that and stuff like this. so yea, it's not a slam to say someone is chunky or likes to up-size meals. But anyway, back to Linc and his chances in the NCAAs , I like his chances and people need to quit slamming him for trying to make his team the best it can be ........GO GREEN BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
