Alabama lost...check
Kansas lost...check
UCLA lose (go Zona!)
Houston lose (@Memphis...go Tigers!)

Then...Purdue beats Illini.

It has been a good day so far. I don't think the needle moves much though since KU and Bama lost to good teams on the road. I do think there's no way Purdue ends up any worse than #5 overall. There's really no one else there, especially since one of Arizona and UCLA loses tonight.

If UCLA wins impressively tonight, they could move to the # 1 seed in the West. If so, would Houston go to the East? If so, I could see Purdue going East as their # 2. Probably get UConn as the # 3.

Purdue and UCLA could be in same bracket as “lowest” 1 seed and highest #2 seed in East or West region…
UCLA is going West no matter what IMO. If they're a 1, either Houston or Kansas (whichever is worse) will go to NYC. If they're a 2, it's easy in the West.

Edit to add: The S-curve isn't perfect. The worst 1 doesn't necessarily go with the best 2. Geography plays a much bigger role than people realize. The committee wants balance between seeds 1-4 in each region but it's not perfect.

Purdue will absolutely go to Louisville if a 2-seed.

Wowza! Rough day for ranked teams in the Big XII! Two ranked SEC teams went down, today, too!

Purdue better be ready tomorrow. Illinois will lay it all on the line. As Vince Lombardi would say, "Now we begin the big push."

Sure enough, Joey Brackets has them as the # 2 seed in the South overnight. Alabama is and isn’t still his # 1 overall seed is also in the South. Seems strange that the 1 ( or 2) and maybe 5 ranked teams are in the same regional, but who knows.

I think that a Purdue win coupled with a Houston loss today should be enough to get Purdue back to a number #1 seed, for the moment, considering Houston’s strength of schedule. Of course, things will probably change again in the conference tournaments. If Purdue can win today and win the BTT, it certainly should be enough for a #1 seed, but I think that a sixth loss more likely than not keeps them at a #2.

If they get the highest #2, my guess is that they get rewarded with Louisville, as there isn’t much separation between the top 5 teams.

#2 in Louisville might be just as well. Alabama's looked shaky since all that Brandon Miller stuff came out. It's hard to argue against UCLA as a #1 seed after last night. Purdue hasn't beaten a top 10 team since Thanksgiving weekend.

You think they would give 3 loss Houston a 2 seed over 5 and 6 loss teams? Not saying you are wrong but I have a hard time believing it would actually happen.

Arizona started hot and got up early, but UCLA controlled that game for the majority after the 10:00 mark - 18-2 conference mark is no joke.

Take this for what it's worth (not much - haha):

Kansas (Midwest)
Houston/Alabama (South/East)
UCLA (West)

Purdue, Texas, Marquette, Baylor, Arizona in play on #2-line

If I were forced to wager, I would say Purdue ends up #2 in Louisville. Yes, top seed is better by the metrics, but maybe that's a silver lining for the Boilers.

Now, you'll have to give me a moment or two to recover for agreeing with Joey Brackets. :)

Hey, it is what it is. Purdue has stumbled down the stretch while other teams are playing well right now.

IMO: it's a good thing for Purdue to have a sense of urgency going into the B1G Tournament. This team's been a front-runner most of the season. We'll see how they respond.

It does, but it can and has happened. FWIW, I don't think Alabama is the #1 overall anymore. The committee looks to balance the 1-4 seeds in each region. Add up the S-curve numbers in each. If 1 and 5 overall go to one region, expect 12 and 15 to go there too. All while balancing to avoid conference matchups too.

Yes - it will be interesting where TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas State, Marquette, and Arkansas end up. I could see Indiana as the 4/5 in the Midwest right now.

Another thing that might not mean anything but will be interesting is which other team will be a pod leader in Columbus with us. Marquette probably goes to Des Moines with Kansas so in Columbus it could be Xavier or Indiana.
