Lance a big difference defensively

Looking at Bart Torvik, Purdue is now 2nd offensively and 3rd defensively when you remove preseason bias. I think Lance is the biggest reason for this improvement. He really hounded Young when he guarded him.

I’m firmly convinced that if the BS 5th foul against NW wasn’t called, we‘d be undefeated right now.
Lance is huge, but not only for his defense. He is another ball handler that can also drain a 3 and has the quickness to get through a gap for a layup in the half and another gear in transition.

Agree. Jones is a stud. Pushes the ball, plays D, has the body to handle contact. Sure his 3 is marginal, but with our rebounding that is not so bad. Big-time baller. He provides so many positives, best transfer since Octeus?
Absolutely the best since octeus. Those two have really been the only decent transfers under painter in my opinion. Everyone else has been “meh” at best. I’ll be nice and not comment on any of the other guys that transferred here because I don’t really have anything positive to say about their game.

The others had "games"...where the really helped though. That said Purdue wasn't quite the drawing card back then as now

Gotta hand a lot of credit to Painter here. Nobody on the board knew who this kid was and the reception to us bringing him in was lukewarm at best.

Now, it looks like there might not have been a more perfect fit out there (stellar d, 10pts a night, complements Smith) and we don’t have to pay him 800k to come here!

Lukewarm may be too high 😂

Lance needs to be glue on Marcus Domask along with Morton on Friday.

Lance needs to be more than glue 😂…but also needs to stay out of foul trouble. Hopefully, Morty (when called upon) can slow Domask down with his 6’7 height (still not sold he is actually 6’7) and prove to us (myself included) that he can be a good defender!

Lance has been awesome. It’s humorous and also ironic that Lance was not Painter’s first or second choice or even 5th choice as a transfer. All those other guys who were higher ranked and Painter tried to recruit turned us down and went elsewhere. Lance was not even the position Painter was searching for. Painter was originally looking to add another point guard or a 3 that had a perimeter game. Painter tried recruiting Lance’s teammate at Siu who ended up at Illinois. Lance was a shooting guard known for his defense and who could handle the ball.

As it turns out, that’s what Lance is for Purdue. He’s a shooting guard who plays good defense and can handle the ball. And that’s basically what this team needed.

Lance follows the tradition of Carsen Edwards and Edey that we were very lucky those players Painter first targeted turned us down and Painter was forced to sign his second and third choice. Pack may have been good, but Lance is so much better. Dickinson may have been good but Edey is so much better. One of Painter’s best qualities is he has an eye for talent and unlike so many other coaches, he can develop that talent! So many other coaches make zero effort to develop their players. Look at Ivie before and after. Look at Haas and Tre and Swanigan look at cline and Mathias. Look at that 4 that I hated whose name escapes me (Grady ?) who was a walkon.

Lance has proven he was worth waiting for and being passed over. All those other guys are regretting they passed on the opportunity to play for us. Lance may end up even getting drafted or turning pro. But I think what he really wants is to win a championship!

Domask (SIU) would have been a nice pickup too. He was a stud against Northwestern last night.

I was being nice…lol

I always take a wait and see approach until a guy gets here and puts his skills on tape. If Painter was so anxious to go get this guy and then stand pat, there had to be a good reason!
This. Some people are stubborn and continue to believe that Painter doesn't know anything more than the people who assign stars after a players name.
