I said on this site a year ago that we should fire Shoop and hire Ralph as OC. Not even sure he would take it now.

The amazing thing about their tourney run this year is they are a small 4A school, and they put up huge numbers against 5A schools all the way thru.

But I am sure hazell will come up with something even better.
Sounds like a replacement for John Shoop. Hopefully Darrell Hazell reads the Indy Star or follows Greg Doyle on twitter.

I think Ralph goes the HC route. First to 6A Indy school route. Maybe then a prime state job in the south. After that D2, FCS, MAC, etc.

Ralph's wife is a New Pal native, so I don't think he leaves for another HS gig. It would have to be "an offer he couldn't refuse" like a P5 gig paying at least 250 K or so.

He was an all ACC guard at UNC, (not when Shoop was there thank heavens) so That might be where he'd like to end up.

I have read about his wife being from New Pal. If I was a married guy, I would try to run away from her family.

I remember thinking how a guy from UNC ended up in Indiana. Interesting story. Wonder how deep their pipeline goes at New Pal.

I have to laugh...how far has Purdue fallen when there is a discussion on hiring a HIGH SCHOOL COACH in a major capacity (Coordinator Level). Wow...things are bad

Where do you think Gus malzahn, art briles, and chad Morris came from?

Where do you think Gus malzahn, art briles, and chad Morris came from?

Well - let's see:

Gus malzahn
After leaving High School...he went to Arkansas as a Wide Receivers Coach for a year, then he went to Tulsa as a CO-OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR; He then went to AUBURN as a QB Coach; followed by Arkansas State as a Head Coach and then to Auburn

Art Briles:
Briles went from High School, to Texas Tech as Running Backs Coach - he was at Texas Tech 4 years before he went to University of Houston to become Headcoach

Chad Morris
He left High School, Went to Tulsa (QB Coach) before he went to Clemson and then onto SMU

So - As I stated...Hiring a High School Coach Directly to a Major Position - i.e Offensive Coordinator - that doesn't happen.

Hiring someone as a POSITION COACH (QB, WR, RB) - sure - why not.

It's deep, due to a great feeder system.

The 2nd stringers, mostly sophomores and freshmen, got tons of varsity PT with all the blowouts, and scored lots of touchdowns against a bunch of first team defenses.

The only HS Job I could maybe see him jumping for would be Warren Central, if they made him a crazy offer. It's only 12 minutes from New Pal, so he wouldn't have to move, and is just at another level from a talent and numbers standpoint. But I can't see them having enough $$$ to make it a worthwhile jump.

Are you forgetting the fact that we have literally no shot at getting a top P5 position coach to come work for Sister Hazell for what is surely 1 lame duck season?

We are going to have to look outside the box if we are going to replace Shoop this off -season.

I'm in 100% agreement with you. My point was we have fallen so far that us having to look for a coordinator from High School is laughable.

My thought on this...don't make a change. Ride this ship to the bottom; we are screwed until Burke leaves. So - in the grand scheme of things, hiring new coordinators likely doesn't do much for us.

The way I see it...we are looking at 2018 or 2019 before we field a competitive team:

2016 (another 12th ranked recruiting class) - we'll have a stable of four years worth of those at this point; another 2-10; 3-9 year.
End 2016 - MB & DH fired; New AD; New Coach Hired
2017 - New Coach playing with DH players; recruiting steps up (hopefully)
2018 - New Coach - Year 2; maybe 6-6
2019 - New Coach Year 3: Bowl Game

That will be Donald Trump's 3rd year in office! ha ha - that should get things going!

This Doyel piece was one of pure goofiness.
I'm sure it is all so clear to Doyel. He was promoting him as a head coach, not a coordinator. Said that Ralph was the next Art Briles and must be made a HC immediately before he gets away.
Of course, Doyel conveniently left out that Ralph's team gave up something like 62 points in the title game. Sounds just like what any school with a hurting defense needs.

Keeping with Doyel's logic.....there are several brilliant 7th grade columnists in the state at their respective school newspapers. Should be logical replacements for Doyel, no?

He has the highest respect of fellow high school coaches here in the state which would help on recruiting. Give him shot, what do we have to lose!

A high school coach recommended by the biggest hack at the biggest rag in the state? Are you serious?

Besides, Kevin O'Shea would kick his ass.

You realize that Snider is approximately twice the size of New Pal HS? You can only scheme so much on defense to overcome size, power, and speed advantages.
