This isn't true for all of us, the Roll call thread, shows 20% of us are or so are still sane. The rest of you are the worst of us, and I can only pray recruits, current players and there parents don't read this board.
I'll start by saying I wasn't big on the Hazel hire but was willing to give it a shot, when he hired Shoop I thought it was and is a mistake. I have been outspoken on my criticism of Shoop from day 1. That said...
You people are so dense you don't even realize that Shoop's offense had over 450 yards of total offense and scored 31 points, and more importantly Darrell Hazell put a very much improved football team on the field. Marshall will win 9-10 games this year. Bottomline is Purdue football hit rock bottom at 1-11, and that is largely on Danny Hope's shoulder's. Hazell is improving this program which is what he was brought in to do. Best spot to me is Hazell recruiting 2 and 3 star running backs who no one else offered, and as a sophomore and freshman they ran for a lot yards yesterday. So DH certainly can spot under the radar kids. Every spot on the field expect QB got better.
At a place like Purdue it take 4-5 years to rebuild a program, Hazell is in the process of doing that. Fans have to be smart enough to recognize that, and do their part by continuing to support the kids and coaches in tough times. 4-8,5-7 and a bucket win is better than 3-9. Purdue will upset someone this year as well, giving good momentum going forward. Next season Purdue will win 7-8 games (look at schedule) and this place will be owing Hazell an apology.
Firing Shoop now when the program is on the upswing is a mistake. If after next season Purdue can't reach a bowl game changes need to be made.
As Purdue Alum I am embarrassed when I hear our players say they'd rather play on the road then at home, because the stadiums are actually full.
Do I think DH was a good hire? Eh.. could have done better, do I think Shoop was a good hire, hell no. Do I think those 2 are going to have Purdue winning football games again? Yes, and that's all that matters. Do they and the kids who play for the old gold and black deserve my and your support? Yes!
I realize I am talking to a brick wall with many of you, but the reality is DH is doing what he was brought into do, and that's improving this team and program.
