247 says Oregon and it seems it is the only place he has taken an official. My gut tells me we are out with this announcement but maybe this is a falling domino effect from yesterday's commitment.
Yeah you've got to think it's Oregon as most have been predicting.
Have we had a recruit commit without an official?
Yes, but I can't recall it and it may have been football? I need to check and see if Hairston never visitedHave we had a recruit commit without an official?
If he's going to choose Oregon regardless, at least the announcement lets Coach Painter know where he stands so that he can move on.247 says Oregon and it seems it is the only place he has taken an official. I'm sure he saw that King was a long shot. Even I could see that.I think Painter knew where he stood here regardless. No visit was scheduled. It's cool to make the top 5, but a visit would have made it feel more plausible.
King is announcing right before RJ Barret (the #1 overall player in the class, and who plays the same position as King) takes his official visit to Oregon. Barret is scheduled to visit coming weekend on the 23rd.
I would guess Oregon's coaching staff did the same thing Painter and his staff did to ED before C.C. could visit this weekend, and told them look we want you, but if this other player comes and accepts this offer your offer is no longer on the table.
Yeah that could put an interesting wrinkle in it. Thanks for sharing That info!I don't disagree on this being what pushed King to commit if he goes with Oregon but nobody is turning Barret down if he wants to commit.

Barret could play the 2 and King the 3 if they both want to be Ducks.I don't disagree on this being what pushed King to commit if he goes with Oregon but nobody is turning Barret down if he wants to commit.
Tre Williams is the most recent it happens often .Have we had a recruit commit without an official?

Didn't we have a pretty good football player commit last year right after they fired Hazell?ye
yeah, but didn't he take an unofficial? There was a commit in the past that had never stepped foot on campus...I just can't find a link that shows that.
maybe...I was thinking Jimmy Smith as a possibility, Roy Hairston as another and Todd Schoettelkotte as another possibility. My thoughts are going back a few years, but there could be others. Course my mind could be shot, but this was so unusual...to not visit at all that I expected it to fall down and that is why I think I recall it happening before...with someone. My first guess was Roy because I think he saw himself coming in and taking Big Dog's spot and filling that void...but hard to find that data so long ago...Didn't we have a pretty good football player commit last year right after they fired Hazell?

Not that it matters, but is that possible? ... how can a visit be neither an official or unofficial visit? By definition, isn't any visit not official an unofficial? Or am I taking too literal a view of this?I believe you are correct and it was WR Tyler Hamilton from South Carolina. He committed to Purdue on 11/22 without taking any official visits despite having received offers from numerous schools. he did attend a junior day / camp at Tennessee that wasn't considered as an official or unofficial visit. Hazell was fired 10/16.

Day camps that are open to anyone are not "visits." The key being other kids are there doing the same things at the same time. Not that it matters, but is that possible? ... how can a visit be neither an official or unofficial visit? Gotcha. I totally glossed over the camp reference.Day camps that are open to anyone are not "visits." The key being other kids are there doing the same things at the same time.
You may or may not have heard about OSU football holding a "camp" in Florida over their spring break. It was a really big deal and the NCAA had no rules against it. Miami and FSU got their panties in a wad about it. I think the NCAA was going to do something about it, but not sure they ever did.Gotcha. I totally glossed over the camp reference.
Tomorrow is always tomorrow ... it never comes ....Is it tomorrow yet?
I believe it was classified as superficial. Not that it matters, but is that possible? ... how can a visit be neither an official or unofficial visit? By definition, isn't any visit not official an unofficial? Or am I taking too literal a view of this?
