the roster next year.....and wow!

Eastern will be amazing next to PJ, Mathias, Cline and Boogie.
Wheeler will have a year to learn under V. Edwards and Smotherman
Ewing will have a year to learn under V. Edwards and Biggie
Haarms will have a year to learn under V. Edwards, Biggie and Haas.

If Biggie, Edwards and Haas all go, well we have nice talent to fill the gaps.

I would say Biggie is gone for sure.....Edwards and Haas if they stay, we have a loaded front line again....Haas, Taylor, V. Edwards, Wheeler, Ewing and Haarms.

Future is bright for sure....cant wait to see Wheeler and Ewing play.

I don't think VE's start this year shows he is quite ready for the jump unless he is ready to go un-drafted and play in Europe (nothing wrong if that is truly what you want to do). He would be well served staying his 4th year and making a big jump athletically and aggressively start attacking the lane more. Next year, with improvement, he could be looking at taking the scoring from Biggie a bit more and hopefully solidifying himself more defensively.

Haas I don't see leaving because I think he truly loves the college experience and he is playing to financially take care of his sister for her entire life. If he isn't going to get that guaranteed contract, he likely isn't going to leave. He needs another year of polishing his handling of double teams and going strong around the hoop (areas he has vastly improved on) to prove that.

None are going to be first-round material imo. The question will be if they care about that.

You mean there is a chance Matt's recruiting may be better than originally thought?

I would say its possible that everyone but Biggie stays. As long as Biggie is a projected late first rounder, I think he will go. Maybe Vince if he just starts playing lights out the rest of the year.

Exactly right and why the haters and complainers need to just leave the recruiting to Painter. He is getting exactly what is needed to progress the program further.

Biggie has to have a huge, B10 POY-type conference season if he wants to even think about leaving for the NBA, especially in 2017's loaded class. He's nowhere to be found in either round of any of the mock drafts, currently. That could change over the next few months, but for what it's worth, he's listed as the #79 draft prospect in 2017, and #39 in 2018 by Draft Express. VE is #71 and #31, respectively.

I think Biggie is here for the junior year. I see both he and Vince in a similar light. Neither are the typical freak athletes that you see in the NBA. I honestly think if Biggie could jump "faster" he would already have been gone. But as it is they need to make up for their lack of elite level athleticism through polished high level basketball skills. Neither is that package right now and I don't think either will get their by the end of this year.
I just think Biggie needs another year to get truly accustomed to his lighter body. He must learn to take larger 4's off the dribble occasionally and then bully when he has the size edge. Of course he needs to cut down the TO problem which still hasn't vanished from his freshman year.

I would bet that one or two of those freshmen end up redshirting, especially if Taylor comes back.

I don't know why people have to start this kind of idiotic crap. Oh it's BoiledSteel, now I get it.

Look, posts on here have been 99% positive lately except for obvious trolls like reasonableguy. Why stir crap up? You really want to, well Purdue hasn't beaten anyone yet. You can get all excited about wins vs Az State and close losses at home and on the road to good teams, but we are in 5-6 seed territory right now with not a single win over a projected NCAA tourney team. Not exactly great and certainly not worth talking trash over.

Besides, this post was about 2017 recruiting, which many are still not overly excited about. Hopefully they turn out well, but no reason to stir the pot. Come tell me Painter is getting "exactly what is needed" when we do something besides go 7-2 without a single win over a tourney team.

I never doubted it...check all my past posts I was always positive so don't lump me in with the asshole dumbass Painter bashers.

I am always positive.......loved this class from the start.

You are. I'm not a traffic cop but I think his post was T.I.C.. Just my take.

I don't think going next year is a sure thing, not sure he is a first rounder yet. Has and Edwards nope.

if biggie cant develop an outside shot consistently or improve on his inside game at both ends, i cant see him going in the draft this year. great rebounder but he has trouble inside especially decision making. if he decides to leave i doubt he is in the nba next year. been wrong before will be first to admit it if he proves me wrong this time

I would not be surprised to see one of the above redshirt as there will not be room for him to get meaningful minutes on the floor.

Sorry BS. Matt's not good enough to coach a zone. That would require coaching skills like Crean's.
Crean presents a real conundrum regarding coaching greatness. He can teach zone but he can't teach his team how to beat it.

Wheeler said in an interview one of the reasons he picked Purdue was the idea of VE leaving early and getting playing time right away. I doubt he redshirts. No way Eastern redshirts. So that leaves Haarms and Ewing. If Biggie stays and Painter signs Epperson, Haarms will redshirt. If we don't sign another C/PF and redshirt Haarms, we are relying on JT to stay healthy.

He tried zone for one possession against Purdue last year

Everything Haarms has said implies he will do whatever is best for his development

Hate to be the one to break it to him but if he came to Purdue because he thougjt Vince Edwards would be leaving early for the NBA, hes probably not going to be happy when Vince comes back and plays 30+ mins a game next season.

That's funny. It's even funnier that printed his name and greatness in the same sentence.

Yeah he is. It's kind of funny in a way to watch him and everyone else that posted all their negativity scramble now to try and save face now that all of their garbage has been shown to be very inaccurate. Unfortunately, it's kind of too late and the damage has been done and their credibility is gone.

I am very glad the team is playing so well. Most of us knew that if we were realistic and patient that things would start to click. Lets all just hope it continues all season long!

Ya, I just thought the same thing.

Hopefully Aaron Wheeler sees a little more that he likes in Purdue than just the prospect of Vincent leaving early.

Wheeler needs to worry about adding muscle to his 180 lb frame, so he can survive a B1G campaign, and his PT will sort itself out.

Edwards being back will be a plus for Wheeler, gives him someone to learn from and to play against in practice

Is Haarms playing anywhere this season.

Watching Biggie I didn't think he would be as good as he is let alone our best player. I wasn't that upset when he chose MSU. Shows what hard work will do. I hope an NBA team gives him a chance. I just don't see him as a player the NBA covets. He doesn't have the elite athleticism the NBA requires.
That said I think he is gone regardless. He'll make a good living playing BB. Probably over seas.
Biggie prove me wrong again.

His ability to pass and defend (multiple positions) in an up-tempo style and at least become a threat from beyond NBA 3pt range will greatly increase his "stock," for a potential first round slot, IMO. The NBA draft process is now such a high-wire act with razor-thin selection criteria....and combined with the ever increasing parade of foreign players (mostly known by Fran Fraschilla and a few other experts), I've all but given up trying to successfully predict the outcomes.

CS is an admirable example of what hard work and second chances can do.....both for sports and health/life. I also love how he works the boards.....that won't hurt him at the next level, either. Very glad he chose to be a Boilermaker.

have to have a great respect for his work ethic that shows up in his boards for those that don't follow his work outside the game exposure

I pretty much agree with all of this.

The one thing that I will add is when people saw Draymond Green @ MSU, they did not think of him in any way of what he is today. His athleticism is so much better today than I thought possible from MSU (tho he is not elite by NBA standards, he is light years ahead of where he was and above average athleticism by NBA standards). To be clear, I'm not saying Biggie is the next Draymond. However, I am saying that Biggie has improved this off-season more than I had anticipated (and that's not a knock as I was assuming an improvement knowing how much work he puts into his game).

I do think Biggie would benefit from another year at Purdue (not just saying that as a selfish Boiler fan, but from his perspective as well). I think if he has another off-season to focus on his first step and handles - added to his already improved frame, I think he *would* be coveted by NBA teams to be 1st round material (much more than he is today based upon a lot of mock drafts you see for 2017 which don't even have him as a 2nd rounder).

The one thing about the Draymond comparison that may help or hurt depending on how you look at it is... Draymond @ MSU didn't appear to work as hard or eat as well as he does now obviously. He had some natural quickness and skill despite that. However, he was still selected in the 2nd round based on what he demonstrated and *NO ONE* the possibility of what he is today (I think even Warriors mgmt would admit they never saw this coming). Biggie seems to already be exhibiting excellent work habits and production in college and the NBA still doesn't think he's a 2nd rounder. The question is how much more trajectory of improvement or higher ceiling is left for Biggie to actualize? Personally, I think a lot of potential remains for Biggie, but the question is how do the NBA personnel think.

Nonetheless, so happy he is a Boiler and would support any decision he made after the season.
