First time in ten years we get a really good team coming to Mackey in ACC Challenge and now this happens. Hell, if worst comes to pass we may not even get to play that game although it seems unlikely that things would move fast enough for them to shut down the program before this upcoming season. I would not be surprised to see some players deemed ineligible and/or jump ship in the upcoming weeks though. I would be very surprised if we still get the top ten squad we were expecting.

You raise a good point. I would be really shocked if the current team is still intact when the season starts.

The team coming to Mackey will resemble the IU team after Sampson left IU.

Actually classic PU luck is sacking a quarterback, QB gets injured, backup QB comes in a plays way better to lead the opponent to a victory. But that hasn’t happened in at least 4 days.
I can literally think of like 4 times that has happened to Purdue....hopefully O'Korn goes on to a HOF type of career in the NFL to justify that 'W' at Purdue.

Do you have any inkling how many recruits that the Louisville cheaters have taken from the state of Indiana and Purdue in the past 10-15 years? That shidhole of a university has finally been nailed. This is a great day for Purdue.

When Speight went out I thought right then that we were going to lose. Not quite the same feeling as *The Fumble*, but close. Then after we didn't sack the qb deep near the goal on 3rd down, the game just felt like it was over.
I said the exact same thing to my dad as we watched it happen. Damn I hate being right ALL the time!:mad:o_O;)

No, I don't see it as a great day for anyone who likes college sports... it's a sad day, but necessary and hopefully leads to a housecleaning.

Didn't this also happened with Ohio State and Norte Dame games a few years ago? That reserve QBs came in and took respective teams to late game heroics after the starting QB was incapacitated by our defense?

Phew..

Makes total sense that known devil is a lot better than unknowns.

Hopefully we don't have to worry about this any more with UMich experience..

I hadn't even thought about this, but IU is in the same boat. We're in the middle of a series with Louisville and were supposedly setting up a series with Arizona that was supposed to begin in '18 or '19.

It isn't a sad day at all. It is something fans have complained about forever. Get fired for anything but losing and you will find a job. Finally shedding some light with actual players and dollar amounts. The NCAA will have to respond. The sad part is that it won't stop the cheating. This might, however, slow it down. If the FBI arrests family members that took money, that will make future players think twice.

The problem is that AAU is so incredibly dirty and corrupt. Has been for a very long time. The shoes companies started fighting for players and teams and so now, coaches found a way to indirectly buy players and stay clean. I hope the FBI goes after the AAU and goes after as many cheating coaches they can. I imagine the head coaches will be implicated in order for the ACs to avoid major time.

I really hope the NCAA takes the opportunity given for reform. I can't say it enough. Switch to the same rules in football. Once you sign on, it's 3 years. You can go directly in though. Get rid of the massive talent disparity and reward good coaching. That would really help Purdue. It would also make the game more fun to watch. I hate the powerhouse teams like Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, and Duke loaded with kids that shouldn't be playing collegiate ball.

You do realize the one and done rule is an NBA rule, not the NCAA?

I feel like the NBA put it in place because so many NBA busts were happening in the late 90s to about LeBron time. That sucked for the NBA money. Why not give owners and GMs a year to watch kids in college to evaluate them.

College basketball is worse because of it. I want the one year rule gone. If kids think they are too good for college, then try to go pro. They probably think they are too good to study and are wasting taxpayer money to send them to even one year of school anyway.

Nothing will be done to any program involved in this until after the season at the earliest. This could/will drag 12-18 months. Louisville will be in Mackey and now we might actually beat them this season.

Well Louisville has already fired its AD, coach, lost 2 of their 2018 five-star recruits, and apparently already declared Bowen ineligible for this season. I would be very surprised if we don't see further movement before the season starts (and practice starts this weekend if I'm not mistaken). These players don't even know who their coach is going to be at this point.

In the same vein as most Purdue thing ever, did anybody see what Alabama did last night? They released a statement saying they internally investigated their program (apparently in one day), found no NCAA violations, but fired somebody for good measure anyway. No need to come to Tuscaloosa NCAA or FBI, we’re all good here. Yep, perfectly clean.

These aren't the violations you're looking for......

Joe Montana's debut and it was after we knocked out their #1 and #2 QB's!

You do realize the one and done rule is an NBA rule, not the NCAA?

It is an NBA rule, but if the NCAA added a contract line when the player signs agreeing to three years of amateurism or they would owe a percentage back of profits back to the NCAA, they could resolve that easily. The NBA would then have a choice. Wait for 3 years for all players going through college, or allow people out of high school.

Here is the thing. There aren't any less busts in the one and done era. These kids aren't developing enough in that one year. The difference is, the NBA gains fan base when these players go to college first. For example, how many of you were Portland fans before this year? It would benefit the NBA by getting more developed players and give them a bigger fan base for small market teams.

Will it happen? Who knows. It's a billion dollar industry and people don't want to rock the boat. As long as fans continue to look the other way, nothing will change. What they don't understand is the fan base is built in!! Look at Purdue football. The amount of money they brought in by being competitive and they are far from a blue blood. The NCAA would benefit more from 20 teams that could win it than 4 every year that the refs seems to protect. That's all about gambling and ratings. You could make up for ratings lost during the end of the tournament by having higher ratings and attendance and gear sales through the year.

I just wish there was somebody in charge that cared more about the game than money. I would volunteer and do it for a modest 10 million a year. But I would have the sport so squeaky clean that all programs would have a fair shot!

At least I see this as "good" luck over the assumed classic PU luck.

I know we may not get to play the quality of team we hoped to play, but... wait for it ... we will be the same team we are now .... as opposed to those teams being skeletons of their current selves ...

Totally. This is one of Painter's best teams, and its coming the same year that many of the top teams will be decimated/distracted by the scandal.
