I think he needs a "senior" coach sitting beside him and in his ear the entire game. Someone calm, someone who's been there before, and someone who knows how to deal with pressure.
Just my opinion.
Just my opinion.
If you watch Painter on the sidelines, he doesn't need a senior coach who is calm and level headed. In fact, I think that is the problem with Painter. I think he has become to level headed and calm. When he had an intense fire and was clearly passionate on the floor, the teams played with a sense of reckless abandon and on an edge. That type of demeanor has been missing for a few years. I know a lot of people don't want to attribute a coach's personal life with on the court results, but you can clearly see a direct relation of that fire that is observable on the sideline to his divorce a few years ago. Whether the game became too important and was having an effect on his personal life or the things in his personal life cause a change in personality/coaching philosophy I do not know. But there is a direct correlation there.
Iirc March 2011 - Missouri talks, by aug/Sept 2012 divorce was filed.I have wondered about this myself, although I never knew dates, and circumstances.
