So each year several guys are watched and some offered in July. Additionally, the staff often spots a few new guys and offers them too. Will people go nuts when CMP offres some of these unranked or lower ranked late bloomers?

How many new offers do you expect based on CMP past history?

Won't be surprised if we offer Aaron Henry, Justin Aherns and Tim Finke.

I am sure there will be others

Yes, none of those would surprise me either if they play well.

Always late offers. Seems like Wheeler and Haarms were offered late.....but I cannot remember how late.

wheeler - late sept.
haarms - early oct (don't think we knew of an offer before his early oct. commit anyway... as some were still discussing epperson and manley then)

That's because Painter missed out on a lot of his top targets in the '17 class. If Painter is offering 6-7 guys in the 18 class this month, that isn't a good sign. Anderson likes us, but he is going to make us wait to see what happens at IU and to see what other schools come calling. I would like to see one of the guards and Dowuana locked in before the end of summer. Anderson is the best wing we are in the mix for. He is important in the fact that we were on him early and his recruitment blew up. When Painter gets in on players like him early, he has got to land them when they break the top 100. I don't think Painter is giving up on the plan a guys. We are likely longshots at Phinisee and Hunter, but Embery is probably a lock if he makes an early decision. That's why Anderson is so important. An elite/local wing that would fit in perfect with Carsen and the '17 class. When that '19 class hit, we would have the experience and talent to make a deep run. Especially if we get a steal in Dowuana who has already greatly improved. He looks incredibly polished in the paint and has the athleticism to be a great defender.

If Painter could land Dowuona and Embery before August, I'd feel very good about where the class stands heading into fall.

Why do you think we are a long shot with Hunter?

I will say the 3 and 5 are critical positions. and if we can't lock down Anderson and Dowuona soon, Painter will begin extending additional offers at those two positions. I have to believe regardless, painter will send out 2 late offers not currently targeted, and 4 other offers depending on receiving current commitments.

While I kind of agree, I think that Eastern and Wheeler can play the three (and perhaps Sasha) and Williams and Haarms can play the 5. I could argue that a combo guard like Embery or Hunter and a power forward like Hauser or Bates would fill equally important needs.

I agree, then again if any talented player wants to join this program that's top 100 and fits the Boiler mold, then I'll love to have them
Maybe painter will accept 4 more pointguards and go ultra small ball with Eastern as our center :)

I think we all agree who and what we want. But the question asks how many more late offers do you believe painter will give out? I think he's pretty confident he will sign 2 of the guards he's already given offers to. So I highly doubt he gives any more late offers to guards. But I believe Painter really wants an elite Sf, and Anderson is going to take forever to make up his mind. So like haarms and Epperson, painter will give out a bunch more offers to SF's and whoever accepts the offer first will be the one he signs. if Dowouna signs, I doubt Painter pursues any more big men. and painter will hold one offer back for a late signee wild card - most likely a combo guard

Yes, would love to get Dowuona locked up.

But late offers don't bother me IF they are late bloomers AND are guys that can come in and contribute in a positive manner right away where they can be B1G difference makers. We will see if that is the case with the 17s....hopefully it is. I think CMP is very good at spotting talent, and if he sees a guy that is just coming on and blowing up then--fine.

However, if the late offers are just because plan A-F are gone, and here is a guy to fill a roster spot who he found after all other B1G coaches have rosters filled, then yes, I would agree that is a problem.

I keep reading how Williams paired up with Hunter, Dowuona, and Anderson would be an ideal class. I agree.

But based on very recent recruiting we would be fortunate if we land 1 of Dowuaona, Anderson and Hunter. That is just how it has been - lots of competition in recruiting. With Williams in the fold my hopes are:
1) Anderson
2) Hunter
3) Dowuona
No slight on Dowuona (love to have him), but with Williams in the fold it is not super critical to land him. And if he is the one we get that is awesome...lots of uses for a guy with his size mobility and quickness for a guy his size.

But an athletic scoring wing is our top need right now IMO, and Anderson fits the bill with what CMP is trying to do with multi-positional players. (also is it true staff is still interested in watching/courting Jerome Hunter even though Purdue is not currently in his final list?? If there is an opening or flexibility in JH camp, IMO CMP is wise to try to go there as JH also fits what CMP is trying to do in the scoring multi dimensional versatile player...maybe better than anyone we are looking at)

With NC Big Immanuel Bates (ranked 143 and 6'9") planning a visit after they get back from Taipei......hopefully CMP uses that impending visit to put pressure on Dowuona to commit?? Either are very good, but I think Dow's stock is higher...

Is this a quote from some where or your own personal knowledge?

Looks like we made Anderson's final 5. No big surprise there...us, UM, IU, UCONN, and DePaul.

Him making an early decision might be beneficial to Purdue. We were on him early and we got minutes to offer. IU might be the toughest competition, and that would really suck to lose him to them. He is the type of player Crean would have ignored. UM signed Johns. DePaul is up and rising but outside of Lalu players, we shouldn't lose recruits to them. Uconn isn't what they used to be. I like our chances here, and I think he is the most important after landing Williams. It would also give us two top 100 players to start the class.

AJ Hammons is in Miami this year for the Heat. Maybe he can put in a good word to Dowuona.
