Unless noted otherwise, Smart doesn't appear to be a G type of player. I assume that McCann will slide to the backside and Smart will stick at RT. He has great length and long arms with good bend in his hips. He appears to struggle a bit with his chop step back in to pass protection but that appears to be more of a stance issue (IMO) and can be fixed relatively quickly at Purdue. He has the athleticism to play T but probably not the size and leverage needed to play inside. This is a good pickup that, at the worst, will provide quality depth that Purdue didn't have last season when the injuries stacked up on the OL. Glad to have this young man on campus!
Smart looks like tackle all the way. Probably Patterson's replacement at LT. Maybe they'll move Jalen Neal to RG? Or hopefully we keep Hudson and he can play RG.
Is he the kid who blew out his knee last year? IIRC, he was playing pretty well for a walk-on.
I think he has to stay lower...gets a bit upright too quick and may struggle with speed pass rushers.
He does a good job in holding the point on running plays and I could see him inside clearing the running lanes
Yeah, I get what you say. I think he's got good footwork and is violent with his arms. He does hold point really well though.
Neal? DEs ran right around him. I dont remember seeing good footwork at all.

I doubt they start freshman on the OL. If they do, we are going to be in deep deep trouble.

Hopefully Tanner Hawthorne and Grant Hermanns show some promise. Be nice if both of them worked out

Truitt was offered as a thank you to his family and father who give a lot to the university. No reason he should have been offered a scholarship and a kid like Cronk wasn't.
There's a reason he didn't see a single meaningful snap this year...even with a decimated line.
