he said coaches get graded and earn respect by how they coach in the last 3 min of a game, people forget about the previous 37 min.
- stated if you have a PG that can blow by people or penetrate you are 40% better a team.
- said the last 3 min. the main keys are FT shooting and breaking the press.
- breaking the press, stay away from the corners, funnel towards the middle of court
- spacing is important, he liked only 2 guys in the backcourt the more you have the more they have and it gets crowded.
- too many coaches are putting on the brakes w/ alot of time to go w/ players watching the clock ( SFA did), running the shot clock down to 4 secs and then firing up a bad shot as opposed to his plan of 11 secs go into the offense and if there is a miss you can get the reb.
said there is too much one on one to get a shot off, loved the way St Joe's plays w/ guys cutting to the basket, which I wish we did more often like when our bigs get doubled, we should have weak side cutter, instead every stands still and we have Bigs shooting fade aways. He was interesting this morning.

With the way they call fouls now, you have to have guards that can beat their opponents off the dribble and draw fouls late in games. Certainly an issue for us all season long in holding on to leads late in games.

he alluded to that too, said when you drive to the basket more good things can happen.

Yes, I heard it, he knows what he is talking about... But if I was a player of his I wouldn't half of the time know what he is saying because he talks like 90MPH, i think his brain works faster than his jaw hinges. Wow, he is smart though.

That is what the game has turned in to. You get "penalized" for playing defense imo.

Correct. If a guy has any quickness and handles it is almost impossible to defend them if they decide they want to drive at you.

I did like how they called the IU/Kentucky game, quite a few offensive calls for pushing off when driving to basket, rarely saw that kind of call during the season.

I thought it was great when they called it on Yogi and he was upset about it. He's been flopping at IU for 4 years and getting that call.

i saw that too , KY didn't like it (CC & Ullis & Murray)---but it was called both ways which was great. Any good NBA player has a lead arm out there and that does not get called.

Thanks Calhoun for the great insight, which states our weakness for these 11 years

Did Calhoun discuss how much he cheated at UConn? Must have not been enough time to discuss that subject.
