Before that:

2002 - 19-13, loss in NIT Quarterfinals
2003 - 15-16, loss in 1st round NIT
2004 - 18-17, loss in NIT Quarterfinals
2005 - 24-8, loss in 3rd round of NCAA
2006 - 28-5, loss in 4th round of NCAA
2007 - 22-11, loss in 1st round of NCAA
2008 - 22-13, loss in 3rd round of NCAA

Since then:

2010 - 25-8, loss in 2nd round of NCAA
2011 - 21-12, loss in 1st round of NCAA
2012 - 13-19, no postseason tournament
2013 - 20-14, loss in 1st round of NCAA
2014 - 29-5, loss in 2nd round of NCAA
2015 - 33-3, loss in 2nd round of NCAA

Just wondering what the mood around the Villanova program was in....

2004? "Three years with Jay Wright as coach and we aren't even sniffing an NCAA tournament bid. Think we need to be looking to head another direction."

2013? "The Final Four in 2009 was great but that was clearly his peak. We've had 1 NCAA tournament win in the 4 years since then and didn't even make it two years ago. Think we need to be looking to head another direction."

2015? "Another good regular season and another year of under-performing in the NCAA tournament. 7 straight years of not getting to the second weekend of the tournament since going to the Final Four in 2009 which clearly looks to be an aberration at this point . We might have to go looking for another coach if we ever want to have more tournament success."

last tuesday I posted about Jay Wright on this board as a little balance vs the Painter Haters here, he's had a similar coaching record. I live 40 min. N of Nova and there has been a couple of times where their fans and alums were ?ing him bigtime like after the '04 and '13 seasons. Also didn't care or his 3 guard offense which relies on the 3, early exits in tournaments including to lower seeded teams.

Good post. I'm sure there was great frustration for the Villanova fan base. I bet they're glad they hung on to Jay Wright at this point.

You could write a similar story for Lon Kruger.
Lon is a coach who likes to build programs up and then leaves. Not saying that is bad but moves on after a time at a school.

Underrated coach IMO.....taken five different schools to NCAA tournament.....Final Fours with two different schools (22 years apart).....does have a bit of the "nomad" in him I suppose.
