Sounds to me like there were some programs picking the brain of his agent and the agent let PSU know that the offers rolling in would possibly intrigue his client to entertain them. That's a good chunk of change that would have put him #4 in the country behind only Harbaugh, Saban, and Meyer.
BTW, want to know why the B1G doesn't suck as a conference anymore? Maybe take a look at the schools finally starting to shell out money for head coaches as a whole. As of last year (Franklin was #11 previously in 2016) the B1G had 10 of the 50 highest paid coaches (surprisingly Kevin Wilson was #50). The B1G actually has 5 of the top 15 as well (Harbaugh, Meyer, Franklin, Ferentz, and Dantonio). It'll be surprising to see the 2017 numbers come out with a renewed commitment from Purdue, more from Minny, and IU's coaching change (can't see Allen making more than Wilson did considering he is totally unproven).
