Spoke to Georgia four-star center James Banks tonight after not being able to connect last night in time for BOILING OVER.
We'll roll out a full story next week but here's some info.
• Purdue has been recruiting him for a while but jumped in with two feet and offered after the first eval weekend in weekend when he played well at adidas Gauntlet in Dallas.
• I asked who his offers were and I swear he listed 30 schools, lots of ACC and SEC teams.
He has not touched anything yet in terms of narrowing to a list.
"So I can give schools like Purdue a chance to come in," Banks said though I may be paraphrasing.
By that, he meant newer schools and not specifically Purdue.
• He is dead set on engineering and has known of Purdue's rep there for a long time.
• His aunt graduated from Purdue and speaks very highly of it. Doesn't sound like it's a big deal, but at least there's a certain awareness there around him.
• Matt Painter called him tonight and they spoke for 45 minutes. Painter told him he thinks he'd be a good fit at Purdue as a person and student as much as a player.
• He is 6-11, 230 now, so will need to fill out some, it would seem.
• No plans for visits at this time. Sounds like he isn't gonna deal with this recruiting stuff 'til the fall.
