Jalen Jackon to Leave the Program per Indystar

I think that is old news from Wednesday of this week. Did Carmin just write about it? Would like to read the article. I assume it was grades related although don't have any info.

the indy star is a few days late in their coverage of purdue sports. not a total shocker.

So, how does the math work out for the 2018? Not much coverage on this, other than Wolegib and a few others reporting..

Somebody posted earlier I think boiler11 or stick that we are still 4 over 85 but we have until fall to reach that number , so we could still have 3 year grads or academic casualties or players voluntarily leaving!

In other words Brohm knows more than us and wouldn't be offering if he didn't already know about who's leaving. Maybe Brohm is also making some contacts. When he was at WKU, he said he would receive a lot of players Louisville didn't have space for. Maybe he's now in a similar position of sending players to other schools. We still have Craft and Lane waiting to see if any scholarships open up.

Here is my math:

After the signing day, Purdue signed 22 players which leaves them 6 over the limit. With the two recent players leaving, Purdue now stands at 4 over the limit. However, places have Jacob Theineman as counting towards the scholarship grid. This is where Purdue could save a scholarship in that because he came in to the program as a walk-on, he understands he may not have a scholarship come the fall....HOWEVER, they could guarantee him a graduate assistant position following his playing time as a 'make up' for removing him from scholarship. That would leave Purdue at just three over the limit and I would venture between now and the end of spring camp, at least 6 more players end up transferring out. That would give Purdue the 'wiggle room' that Brohm has stated they currently have.

it's been said several transfers are lining up to come to Purdue. Craft and Lane are still waiting for word before signing elsewhere. Moore is a definite possibility. McDuffie would love to come here if he ever qualifies. if we're at 4 over, to add 3-4 more as predicted, We're going to say good bye to at least 8 current players. I'm sure other quality programs are also going through this same issue. I doubt Hazell even thought about it.

I don't think 4 openings is a major deal and I cannot see him pulling an offer from a walk on. There are probably a few Hazell holdovers who may have red shirted and are finishing a degree not to come back for a 5th year or Sophomore/Juniors who got beat out and will transfer to a lower level. There may be an injury attrition or two. Maybe a grade casualty. There also may be a gray shirt candidate of those guys coming in.
