saw on twitter that he has Purdue on his list of possible transfers. Not sure what he would bring. We really don't need another combo guard & his stat's didn't impress me.

It's kind of like Derryck Thornton from Duke. He'd have to sit out a year but he looks like he has a "high-ceiling". It's a tough call but right now I'd pass on him.

I wouldn't, we have schollies a-plenty, our back court is woefully short on athleticism, putting all the eggs in '17 basket sounds like a risky proposition. Hell he could help as another athlete to compete in practice even if he can't play right away.

Maybe we should make a list where we know there's mutual interest between the quality prospects and the coaching staff.

These are the guys I know of that would fit this definition for 2016 (if they have to sit out, i.e. Hudson, I would consider them 2017):

Devonquavius Payne 6'1 SG (JC)
Desmond Bane
Matt Chastain

Who else is known as a 2016 prospect? (grad-transfer, traditional transfer, JC, HS, or overseas)

I know they've contacted Charlie Moore and Kostas Antetokounmpo who are both 4 star 2016 prospects. Not sure of the mutual interest though.

Hudson's probably the most realistic 2016 prospect we've heard about this offseason outside of the 'Ains Brothers (Bane, Chastain, Payne).

Don't forget Albrecht or the Greek Freak's little brother.

Yep, I know. That post was from April 18th, before Albrecht's official visit. Is Kostas Antetokuonmpo supposed to have as much potential as his older brother? It seems odd that he would still be available at this late date.

Kostas has grown 3" from 6'-8" to 6'-11" in the past year, so his stock has gone up quite a bit only recently. Probably a big reason why he's still available. And since his growth was so late, he was forced to develop pretty decent handles while he was smaller. His story sounds somewhat analagous to Anthony Davis to me. Also, I think Giannis grew several inches even after getting into the NBA, so who knows, maybe Kostas still has even more growing to do.

shot 100 free throws in 700 minutes. When's the last time one of our guards did that? I'd take him. I end up watching a lot of tech stuff due to living in NoVa. He can play.

That's a great stat to bring up, and yes, fits us well. His not playing for a year could be a nice way to have an experienced player around as we integrate a lot of young players.

He had some big games against some good competition (Miami, UNC and ND). With a year to work on his game even more he looks like a good guy to get. Would like to see that FT% go up some also (67%) last year.

Has anyone heard why he is transferring? More PT, didn't get along with Buzz???? That could also play into decision, but since it looks like CMP is interested and he is coming for a visit there must not be any big red flags.

his minutes went down as the year went on. They had some guys really blow up out of no where. They were picked to finish last or second to last and ended up having a decent year.

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. When you watched him, did you like his game? Would he be a good fit for us? I know it's tough, but does his game compare to anyone?

So, Hudson is visiting in the near future (probably within the next month).

He has good size for a guard and I'm going to assume that he's an above average athlete for a DI hooper. Do you guys think his value is enough to be given a scholly, seeing as he would have to sit out next season? I'm still on the fence about whether he is or not: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3147503/jalen-Hudson
I would pass on Hudson. Ties up a scholly for 3 yrs. And almost getting a Stephens type player. Hudson had 6-7 oh-fer games. Very inconsistent. Did have 2-3 big games, but that is 2-3 out of 30.

I would load up on the 2017 class and maybe take an eligible impact transfer for a year.

I liked him. He's like an athletic ray davis, but attacks with more authority. I'd think he'd be great paired with a guy like Haas. He hunted his shot a little this year, but that's Buzz's style. He wants his guys attacking. He's a high major player for sure.

chances are pretty good he will never play with Haas. JH has to sit this year & Haas would be a senior the following year if he comes back.

So Hudson will be a Jr. and Haas will be a Sr. Not sure how you concluded they probably won't play with each other, unless you're convinced Haas leaves early.

Hudson's athletic and gets to the line a lot, but he hasn't been a particularly good shooter from the line or the field so far in his two seasons. I know nothing about his D other than he doesn't have any steals or blocked-shots numbers of note. I'm leaning more towards wanting them to pass on him but he's intriguing because he has time to improve his shot if he chooses the Boilers and athleticism and a knack for drawing fouls aren't things that are typically taught (other than flopping). I just don't like the idea of a 2 guard or 3 that can't shoot, even if he can create his own offense at times.

If Hudson was playing less towards end of season , due to other players doing better, then why would Purdue offer? Not understanding the reasoning ! I say don't offer

Playing devil's advocate, he would be a 2 that's athletic and capable of getting his own shot more often than Mathias or Cline but going by the stats (at least in Mathias' case), he's not as good of a jump-shooter as they are. Or he could be used as a third guard or 3 man, essentially sharing minutes or taking Smotherman's spot at the 3. It's hard to say what the best decision would be, but I agree that it might be better to pass on him.

i just don't see why Purdue would offer, if he wasn't playing a lot for his own team, towards end of season and looks like he is transferring for that reason. Unless he didn't fit in their type of game or was in the coaches doghouse. Just my thoughts, which mean absolutely nothing.

This one doesn't appear to make much sense for either side. From reading the VT boards, it sounds like Hudson was losing out on PT and had inconsistent production in the PT he was given. I don't think Painter has 25-30 mpg to offer him, and I don't see him being any more satisfied with being a role player at Purdue than he was at VT.

Shouldn't the possibility of an offer be predicated upon the player he may develop into rather than the player he was?

OK what am I missing here? I don't get why this guy is such a big deal based on his numbers
His 3 best games as a sophmore were games of 28, 27 and 23 and in those games averaged 50% from the field. Find me anyone on Purdue's team that has that kind of ceiling, particularly at guard. I don't why you guys worship recruits that have never played a damn minute of cbb but hold your nose at bonafide talent. DMs best 3 games were 17, 17, and 12 and everyone wets their pants over that guy.
