Jacquil Taylor Out Indefinitely

Bummer. Was excited to see him this year.

How does this work from an eligibility standpoint? He redshirted his freshman year -- can he still medically redshirt?

This is exactly what I was talking about several months back. Too thin on the front line .... Injuries and off court issues could easily hurt this years hopes with only 10 true schollies on the roster. We will now have a walk on schollie in the rotation possibly for a while.

This hurts... a lot...

Our 3 best bigs are Haas, Swanigan, and VE... And all 3 are starters...

Now, obviously you have to start them all... but after that, do you pull Haas after about 5 minutes and put in CE/Smotheman/Cline/Spike, and then after another 2-3 minutes, put Haas back in for Biggie and they sort of split minutes at the 5 from there on out for most the game, playing a semi-small ball?

Or do you completely rely on a walk-on to come in for 7-9 mpg and hope to god he's not the reason you lose?

IMO, Taylors main goal this year was not to be the reason Purdue loses games, and to specify, defensively don't be the weak link. His length and athletic ability alone was good enough to keep the defense honest and on the other end, he can spread the floor.

Hopefully he can come back mid-season and play 10mpg and be what I wrote above.

Good thing we banked so many schollies. In all seriousness, I'm wondering if we shouldn't have seen this coming. He was injured for a significant time in high school.

Has anyone seen PU52Chevy? Just want to make sure he's OK.
Damn! I was so hoping to see him play this year and get comfortable on the floor to get him ready for his Junior or Senior year.

Well I am hopeful he is back by tourney time.

Get well JT.

Yep Eifert needs to be ready for sure and by the looks of it he is....not the big presence Taylor brings but solid and gritty on the glass.

I don't think it will hurt once Smotherman and Cline are back as long as everyone else is healthy. Vince Edwards is very good at the four and when the suspensions are over, Painter will have lots of options at the 1-3 positions.

Unfortunately this kid can't stay healthy. Injuries in HS, injured his freshman year and forced to redshirt, injured this year.

Law of Averages.....everything has a silver lining and positive spin.

JT is just getting it all out of the way to have a great final 2 1/2 seasons.

He will bounce back and make us all proud he is on this team and a Boilermaker.

you think he will be back this season?

Yes.....stress fracture is not broken....so couple screws, rehab and some milk (joke) and he could be back by last few games (last ten) of the season and into BTT and NCAAT.

I believe in this young man...and if anyone can come back quick it is him.

He is determined to make his mark.

Boiler Up!

Potentially.....it would be a medical hardship waiver.

From my understanding, Purdue University would apply for the waiver, and it can be granted or denied. Generally, the NCAA grants these waivers with rare exceptions if eligible.

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:
  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
Wishing JT the best of luck that he heals without complications and has a healthy productive life. If his basketball career becomes side-tracked, hoping he can get his degree and be successful in whatever he chooses to do......from all indications, he is a fine, hard-working young man. Glad to call him a Boiler.

Still hoping we get to see more of this:

I hope the best for him with his health and future. That said, I hope we don't apply for a medical redshirt. Let the next two years play out and hope he can contribute something but don't try to extend it for an additional year.

I like to see an 8 or 9 man rotation where you play your best players regardless of position (within reason). Biggie, Vincent, Isaac, PJ, Dakota, Carsen, Cline, Basil, Spike. I'm not sure JT was in that top 8-9 range anyway. So, in that regard I'm not sure its is big loss. But as others have noted this does kill our post depth. If Biggie or Isaac go down.. Game over.

MSU is dealing with a situation just like that.
