Thank you for the link. Was going to ask what blueshirting was, that sums it up nicely. The theory is we will "Blue Shirt" him. He met criteria of "not being recruited". This is one way to get an extra recruit into the class that is capped at 25. The GBI guys have said in the premium side that the rules changed and early enrollees don't change that 25 number anymore. See link for explanation on the shirts.

So Wahlberg cannot play in 2019, if he “blueshirts”, correct?

It is my understanding that he can play in 2019.
That sounds right. But, on the other hand, it seems he could also use 2019 as a year of development and not play regardless of whether an opportunity presents itself. Then start his 5-year clock in 2020.If I'm reading correctly, a Blue Shirt can become a Red Shirt or active Scholarship athlete if any existing roster spots open up which by all accounts sounds like it will with a few academic casualties happening this week and/or players choosing to leave the program. Is my interpretation correct?

What say you @Brian_GoldandBlack.com and @Matt_GoldandBlack.com ?
So, if this happens, Jacob would have to wait until February, to sign his LOI, right? When there’s a scholarship available, yes, they can take it but they can only sign their binding letter during a signing period.
I wasn't sure if there is any more time left in the 12/19 early signing period. Just curious. So, if this happens, Jacob would have to wait until February, to sign his LOI, right?
He can sign once camp starts, if there is a scholarship available. So, if this happens, Jacob would have to wait until February, to sign his LOI, right?
Purdue is running against the 25 cap. He most likely wont sign prior to fall camp.I wasn't sure if there is any more time left in the 12/19 early signing period. Just curious.
You are correct.Would he even need to sign an LOI at that point. Wouldn't he Just sign his scholarship paperwork. I believe Biggie never signed an LOI. Could be wrong.
That’s a strange one. According to the Blue Shirt info posted earlier, if we sent him a NLI to sign then he is considered to have been recruited. Therefore cannot blue shirt. If we didn’t send him one, then what did he sign?Is Triplett a blue shirt also?

I’ll take your word on that and I know he was with that large group last weekend, but Rivals doesn’t list him as having taken an official visit. He took an official visit so he cant blue shirt.

Wahlberg was on an unofficial. Triplett was on his official. Was unofficial otherwise he couldn’t blueshirt as he would have been considered “recruited”...

I thought one of the other “catches” for the blue shirt was there had to be no more open spots. As of right now, there are two. Unless there has been a secret signing by a certain WR and a grad transfer, still playing a bowl game perhaps?
Nope...
“The blueshirt rule allows schools to put "unrecruited" athletes on scholarship once they arrive on campus, but count them against the next year's scholarship total, as long as they don't play. Here's what it means to be "recruited," according to the NCAA:
Coaches can contact players and have them on campus for unofficial visits — when the recruits pay their ways — without technically recruiting them. Essentially, as long as a recruit doesn't take an official visit or host one of that school's coaches, he wasn't "recruited" by that school”...
- Was provided an official visit to the campus;
- Had arranged, in-person, off-campus contact with a coach; or
- Was sent an NLI or other written scholarship offer.

Grad Transfer DT? It will take awhile for a big guy like Neal to be ready to play after ACL injury IMO.
