I was at the first game with my wife and daughter so maybe I just missed it, but I don't remember hearing it even once. Does anyone know if the Paint Crew stop doing it? I really hope they did stop... it was about as bad as the first down chant for football.

It's called a Rivalry for a reason. Get over it! And I hope they keep doing it! POTFH!

agree w/ IU sucks chant. totally lame. Didn't mind first down chant.

This 65 year old Grandmother has taken kids, then grandkids to Purdue games. IU Sucks chant makes me smile...I f you didn't even notice if chant was done then obviously it can't be that offensive... Going down an old road here..

I liked the first down chant when it was just that, "1, 2, 3, 4, First Down!". Putting the "bitch" on the end was just childish and unnecessary.
I kinda feel the same about the "IU Sucks" chant except when they are actually playing IU. When they do visit though, I have no problem with chanting it continuously and obnoxiously.

I guess the " blood makes the grass grow" football chant we did as Freshman Class of '70 would be considered non-PC then....It's college for goodness sakes, let them have fun.

I guess if chanting "IU sucks" at a basketball game is what college kids do for fun now then I'm glad I'm not in this generation. The things I did in college just seem like they were far more fun than that.

I like the chant. Don't know what the first down chant has to do with any of this. The 65 year old grandma above had the perfect post on this issue.

It's a student section. They're supposed to be biased, crazed, and loud-mouthed. I hate IU 365.25 days a year. So I don't mind when students voice their similar sentiments about 20 times during bball season.

I hope they don't stop. It's such a fun chant, and part of a rivalry. A chant doesn't make you the little brother.
I went to a Purdue game at Value City Arena and their students yell, "...and Michigan still sucks" after the one minute to play announcement. Do people really think they are Little Brother?

I don't, I thought it was funny. Not sure why people read any more in to it than that. Just a part of the rivalry, and since it clearly is under the Loosiers skin as seen by the constant posts referencing it, a good one on our part.

And I definitely don't get how it is a poor reflection on our status against a hoops team we've owned lately while the always current, hilarious and hip Calvin peeing avatar (on our no longer a rival, rival) isn't...

I agree with the student section being "biased, crazed, and loud-mouthed". I think it makes it fun. That said, the IU Sucks thing is getting old. Maybe it's time to add a few more schools like rival MSU and our arch-rival Iowa to the chant.

Just saying... you know... MSU is more of a rival these days than IU.

Nothing wrong with "IU sucks" once a game. I do think it gets to be a bit much when the football crowd yells it after every kickoff though. That's stupid.

IU sucks is nowhere near as bad as "first down, bitch" for many reasons:

1) "IU sucks" is not vulgar, so old people can't complain about "naughty words"
2) with John Shoop at the helm, first downs are rare
2) Purdue football hasn't made anyone their bitch in ages

And just to head this off: If you think the word "suck" is vulgar, get over yourself. Words change.

To answer the original question.....

The band plays "Hail Fire" followed by the "IU sucks" chant after the first called timeout of the second half (not TV timeouts). For the NCATT game on Friday, there wasn't a called timeout until about 2 minutes left in the game. So if you left early, you missed it.

The officials cut the band off a little early so the students actually performed an A Capella version of "Hail Fire" and "IU sucks" which was actually quite impressive.

Don't worry its still around as we got off a great one during the Vermont game. Can't believe people complain about this chant. Get over it and worry about bigger problems in the world.

I love the "IU sucks" cheer for several reasons:
1) iu does suck
2) this is college basketball, played by college students, cheered by their fellow students, on a college campus.
3) iu fans hate it, which makes it worthwhile
4) If you're offended, cover your ears
5) POTFH
6) BTFU or GTFO
7) while I'm sure someone in the current 'ism' movement will take offense, F'em.
8) iu does suck

Yea that's just hilarious .......

Out of curiosity, what do you do for fun on a weekend?

I can't imagine anyone cares enough to do anything about it. It just happens to pop up as a topic on these boards from time to time. I don't like it but if the students want to do it then far be it from me to try to reason with them to stop it. Students do alot of stupid things.

So what students chant at a basketball game equates to "what they do in college"? That doesn't really make sense.

The chant is fun. It's annoying to IU fans. IU does suck. Thus, do it every game.

I love that chant, well because IU does suck. They are our biggest rivals. It is not Iowa. I don't know what the big deal is about the chant. What else is there to say? At Mackey when the chant is being said, I like to look at the visiting team fans' faces looking confused.

IU fans are extremely annoyed that we continue to use the chant every game. I can't think of anything other than whooping them on the court that makes me happier than annoying IU fans.

Repeat your last line, look up the word irony, and then look again at your avatar...yep

Surprised people dont love my avatar given the reactions in this thread. Seems to be right up your alley. Then again, I set up my avatar once and haven't bothered to change it in years. It isn't something I think about, let alone yell, every time I post. Perhaps if I were to be more obnoxious about it then it would be met with more approval.

Purdue's non-B1G opponents (players and coaching staffs) at first are confused, then they clearly get a kick out of it.

Anything that annoys iu fans is good.
Whether that be their collective team alcohol problem, their players hanging out in Dunn Meadow smoking weed, their coach being an over-tanned clap happy spaz, their fans being inbred trailer trash hillbillies, or the fact that they know they are likely going to lose to Purdue again this year at home.

I would kind of disagree that IU fans are annoyed by this. I'm sure it varies, so some probably are, but I'd say not most. I live in Indy and watch a lot of college hoops with a group of buddies, incl. a couple that went to IU. They always laugh and poke fun about it when it can be heard on television. I would say the only time they're remotely irritated by it is when Purdue is beating IU when it happens, but that's probably more about watching their team lose than it is the chant. Regardless, IMO it's definitely fodder for them calling Purdue little brother as they clown on you and jab you in the ribs when the team is losing to Ohio State and the stadium is still passionately chanting IU sucks.
