Josh Newkirk, 6'1 pg from Pitt that played ~20 mpg last year as a freshman. Decent stats: 5.9 ppg, 2.7 assists with ~2:1 A:T ratio. However, he shot 38% from the field, 30% from 3, and 68% from the line. Also, he is currently recovering from surgery that repaired the lateral meniscus and a micro fracture on the outside part of his knee.
I feel like this is another gem from the Indy Star -- can someone try to explain this excerpt from the article below: He shot 43.4 percent from behind the arc as a freshman; that average slipped to just over 30 percent last winter.
Last year was his freshman year and he shot 30% from 3... I have no idea what that means but it sounds like typical cheerleading from the Indy Star. Anyway, seems like a decent pickup that can at least give stability at the position given he recovers well. He'll also have to adapt to a very different offensive system, but a PG with a year under Jamie Dixon will probably have more defensive knowledge than anyone at IU.
