Any of three things could have happened that would make it a non-issue.
1. The Patriots player does not make a fantastic play.
2. Wilson holds the ball (and then fires it out of the end zone) unless his guy is wide open.
3. Wilson throws the ball low because his guy is not wide open. Always throw it low in this situation. And he needs to be conscious of the consequences of a pick.
Although the play call was definitely odd, you have to figure had Lynch gotten the call the Pats would have stuffed him at least once, with all their guys keying on him. So why not try something different (but safe) on second down.
Another playcall option might have been Wilson faking the handoff and going the other way, but there would be a couple of spies on him too.
I'm NOT defending the play call, just pointing out that Wilson (and I'm a HUGE Russell Wilson fan) made a poor play also.
