that these kids worked their tails off all off season, and these coaches cannot get out of their way. Tiller would have won today's game going away. Spack would have as well. Hope and Hazell - do not have either the intelligence or experience or both to allow the kids to get it done.

How do you begin the game with a pick six? What is the risk, reward profile of that play in that situation? Really - a pick six on the very first offensive play? For a team wants to be confident but has struggled for two years. And is Appleby that poorly prepared by Shoop after three years that he cannot make a better read?

Question - is Shoop worse as an offensive coordinator or a QB coach? Tough question to answer.

The kids finally look like Big Ten football players. They hustled to the ball, moved the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and ran and tackled hard. There were some really good things out there.

This conservative offensive approach may work at OSU, but it has never and will never work at Purdue. Hazell is becoming a caricature out there wearing a turtleneck and a coat on the hottest day of the summer. Is he a stuffed suit with little or no ability to actually coach a football team? The issues today were strategic and belong to the coaches.

And of course this goes back to the AD, who has a lot to say, but very little to show for his efforts in the major sports. Painter pushed back and got what he wanted so basketball is coming back around. Not the case for football and womens basketball. Purdue is going to need a new football coach, and it would be critical to allow Burke to make this hire.

My God. Please stop with these posts. I assume you're all drunk. Explain how the coach lost this. It's 99% on AA. Complaining about the OC is gauche.

I agree.Shoop didn't throw those passes.I do wonder why Purdue played it so close to the vest for much of the second half.Instead of running up the middle so much, why not try some sweeps or reverses?

AA made bad plays, but it's the OC putting him bad plays to start with. The series after Clark made the INT at the Marshall 30 was exactly the place to go for the jugular. Instead, Shoop called three awful plays in-a-row and Purdue essentially lost the game right there. If we score a TD at that point, we likely win the game.

Shoop's playcalling was the epitome of playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

Yes lol the OC shouldn't begin to ask AA to make a simple read and pass without throwing a pick 6... come on man. QB play is a huge part of it

Isn't Shoop the QB Coach AND OC? He's the one that chose Henry, he chose Etling last year, and Appleby this year. I agree that QB play is huge part of the problem, but you'd think that with 2 Elite 11 QBs and another 4* QB on the roster, the OC/QB Coach could choose the right guy for the job. So far, he's 0 for 3.

AA blew this game, but Shoop's play calling in the 2nd half really cost us this game.

I agree it was Shoop that put him in that position. IF AA wasn't up to the task to run Shoop's offense then why did they put him on the field? THIS STAFF NEEDS TO OWN THEIR DECISIONS REGARDING PLAY SELECTION, AND PERSONELL SELECTION PERIOD!

I wish we saved etling instead of throwing him into the fire his freshmen year. He may have been our best qb prospect, but we killed any chance of building his confidence. That o line was just terrible his first year and basically gave him David carr syndrome.

The oline looked a lot better and if we had a real qb coach maybe our qb steps up in the pocket for an extra second of protection, maybe our qb doesn't stare down his wr like it was his prom date, maybe just maybe our qb reads through his progressions and hits the open guy instead of throwing into double coverage.

This game falls on qb play. And in the end that falls squarely on the oc. He picks/trains the qb and he picks the plays. If there is no improvement week 2 idgaf about mediocre football this year time to watch purdue basketball.

As a Marshall fan who was at the game who knows nothing about Purdue, I will say two things.

1. Your o-line pushed us backwards on the first step for three straight quarters and converted 3rd down after 3rd down. So why on earth your coach or QB decided to start trying to pass the pall on 2-3 critical 3rd and very short plays early in the 4th was absolutely beyond me. It was a gift. I'll take it!

2. Your front 4-5 are beasts; one of the best lines we've faced ever IMO. The depth, conditioning, heat or combination started to become a factor in the 4th, though. I spent the entire game concerned our D would run out of gas but with 8-10 minutes to go, we really started to find a few cracks and get off the ball a step faster than your guys. It made all the difference in the world. I don't know if it was depth, conditioning or just that the heat really got to the bigger guys. We were giving up 20-30 pounds per man and it was probably 100 degrees on the field.

Great game between two very different teams. Neither really impressed me much to be honest but the game itself was fantastic.

Best of luck the rest of the year!

Quite honestly I am not even putting this on AA or any player. AA is a competitor and got behind the 8 ball with the terrible play calling and did what he could to try and win. For now I will give him a bit of a "pass" .. for now.

This is entirely on Shoop and to some extent Hazell for not fixing what Shoop was doing.
