Is the above graphic true? I live in the OKC metro area (few miles from Norman) and while OU shares this distinction with PU, BB is very much a time filler for OU fans (it’s slightly more followed than their other sports and waaaay behind FB).

I wouldn't be surprised. OU has been to the final four five times. I think they've missed the tournament more than us.
I think Oklahoma and Illinois have the most Final Four appearances (5) without winning the NCAA tournament.
It looks like Total NCAA appearances for the top 10 on this list are:
Notre Dame (36)

Purdue/Illinois (30)

Hence the major frustration of being a Boilermaker fan.
And an Illinois fan.
my friends and I joke that Ayo will come back. Already expect Kofi back. Add a five star guard in Miller and a four star in Curbelo. Have the two talented 6-6 sit out transfers ready to go. Add a transfer like Chaundee Brown. Return Frazier, Giorgi, DaMonte.
And they cancel the season. That would be so Illinois. Lol
I just don't get the concept that only a national championship provides validation to a fan.
