is it Odom?

several HC's on the "list" didn't do so well yesterday and today. Albin and Monken did OK. Who knows.....

Someone on On3 posted that
I mean he's got plenty of time after retiring from the Lakers

Someone on On3 said players have been informed and the announcement is tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Didn't say who the coach is though.

It’s trending to odom. That random post confirming it on Twitter is a troll. There was a plane that went to Vegas from Purdue earlier today. But there is speculation Odom may not want it and will hold out until next year.

It's not a name that wows me, but he does have not only head coaching experience, but head coaching experience in a major conference. He's done well at UNLV in a short period of time. Got an extension this past spring after his first season. I admittedly don't know anything about his schemes. UNLV did play Boise tough in their regular season game, and didn't get blown out by any means last night.

I'd be OK w/ it , he's in my 2nd tier

Unless we’re willing to pay Marion nearly as much and somehow word his contract so he can’t leave, this would be a bad hire…

I think players might know something. A few interesting but very vague tweets (exes? I don't know the lingo now, I'm to old ) tonight from Landon Heard, George Burhenn, Winston Berglund.

Odom just seems like the wrong pick. I just don't see our completely inept offense under Harrell and walters so we jump to another defensive coach. Not buying it. I don't hate the hire maybe even think it would be a decent hire, IF we didn't have one of the absolute worst offensive of the last quarter century.

And if Marion doesn’t come, Odom will be lost on what to do. I just don’t see how this could work for more than a year-or-two (assuming Marion comes to Purdue in the first place)…

He’s pretty much always had a good OC. He has a good eye for talent in that regard.

At Mizzou he had great offenses and a terrible defense in part because of Walters.

Hurpel was is first OC and now he has this new guy who will also be a HC soon.

And that is really the key to being a head coach, an eye for coaching talent.

I'd say this is probably a too-assumptive statement. Simply because he's a defensive guy means he's "lost" on offense? I think this takes this whole 'we-need-an-offensive-guy-like-Tiller-or-Brohm' a bit over the edge.

Yeah, what you need is a guy that knows how to build a staff.

That's the thing with football, the team is too big for the head coach to do it all so you have to be able to higher staff that can do what you want/need them to do.

Purdue reminds me of Auburn. Something is just not right there. Constant controversy and handling of PR. I am sure we will get a great coach and things will be better.

I agree. UNLV has traditionally been a bad football school, and he has at least made them relevant.

Correct and Odom has always been connected.

He had Petrino coming with him to UNLV until A&M hopped in and offered Bobby like $2 mil to be OC.

I am not worried about the offensive side of the ball with Odom. Not really worried about defensive side either.

The thing about Odom is he is not some master of PR. He is a good recruiter but not a great one. He isnt a hype salesman like Drinkwitz or Kiffin or even Ryan Day that is why a lot of Mizzou fans never liked him. Recruiting in the big 10 should suit him better than the SEC.

I think Arkansas wanted to bring him back as HC if Pittman would have retired.

The more I read about this hire, the more is seems like a good fit. He has experience turning a crapfest around and was pretty successful in doing so as well.

If he is able to bring his staff with him, then that will only make things better.

Question is this, will players leave Vegas and head for Purdue to join the Coach? Purdue is going to need plenty of portal help, do we see an exodus like JMU had when Cig left for IU? UNLV has a nice team, some good players, would be nice to see guys in West Lafayette next season.

And if some that are in the portal decide to return, like Klare, then the turnaround might be pretty quick.

Let's hope so.
