Is Indiana's GOP dominated legislature just plain stupid, or what?

It's one thing to think taxes at a particular point in time are too high, or a particular tax is too high.

It's another thing to make an idiotic pledge to never, ever raise taxes again of any kind under any circumstances.

Then again why expect anything different from a guy who wants to "drown government in a bathtub." He doesn't want effective government, or fair government, he wants minimal government. So folks take that pledge because "taxes bad" and then when you actually DO need to raise revenue like here, or a Kansas where they've cut everything to the bone and due to tax cuts are now in revenue freefall, they can't do anything about it, or they raise fees and pretend it isn't like raising taxes, or they go hat in hand to Grover to seek dispensation for raising some tax just this one time.

A mature adult policy recognizes that sometimes you have to raise taxes, and sometimes you should cut taxes, and it depends on a host of things.

It would seem that their members who took Grover Norquist's no tax increase pledge are not interested in representing the state's needs, just theirs, which is political survival.

The worst part of this seems to be that they just can't change their minds to do what is right. How stupid is that?

The evangelical right runs things into the ground.

Just raise taxes and spend some more! That's the answer!
The state is also requiring local governments to shrink all the while requiring local government agencies to absorb the cost of state mandated programs. While local government funding has been reduced. Circuit breaker. It is really putting local governments in a huge bind.
