Iowa's Pretty Impressive

Is it Iowa is that good or both IU and Iowa St are overrated? Looking at 5-0 against Iowa in the CJB era

Iowa has 150 yards of offense and is up 17...

Could be. But they're still beating Iowa St badly on the road. And made IU look really bad.

Iowa looks very solid on both sides of the ball. They will be tough to beat. That said, it certainly looks like neither Indiana nor Iowa State are as good as advertised.

Iowa scored 13 pts in the 2nd half

Fumble returned for a TD.
Int to set up a 51 yd FG (drive was 3 plays -8 yds)
Int to set up a 22 yd FG (drive was 6 plays, 18 yds)

They won by 10. That tells me they have a good defense. I think we already knew that. Is their team better than last year? Maybe.

Their offense had 173 total yards. Petras was 11-21 for 106. They rushed for a net 67 yds. (90 yds less 23 by the QB).

it will be important to protect the ball and to play good defense. aka don’t beat ourselves. If I am not mistaken, the ISU video was similar to the IU video. Also, probably not wise to play from behind by more than 7. Stop the run and try to make Petras beat you with his arm.

Hopefully the highlight film looks like 2020, except with a Hawkeye logo on the field.

Who knows if it will last but this team has come out incredibly smart on both sides of the ball. It almost reminds me of a team that would have been unspeakable preseason .. so far

Petras is not a distributor of the football. He’s more of your QB who could have played for Michigan in 1986, i formation, two receivers, and laid one out there for a receiver off of play action.

I respect Iowa, but we are probably looking at a 14-13 game in the 4th if we play our game against them and down allow a big turnover.

I just don’t buy that Riley moss is that good now, but who knows

one thing that may help us out this year is Iowa plays a physical psu D the week before.

Oh that’s awesome .. I love when teams play them before us. I remember Scott frosts first year they got beat up by don browns Michigan D before their winnable game with us.. made all the difference

Moss and Hankins have 2 picks each. A couple others with one.

I am hoping that our defense plays well and mimics last year (yards the ground, but make Petras make plays….the one game Diaco got right). I believe we have a smart QB and enough weapons not to force the ball into bad situations. Hopefully we have the ball on the last possession with a chance to win.

a good kicker helps in these types of games 😉

Ferentz has put loads of cornerbacks in the NFL and Moss compares favorably with any of them athletically. Moss has had some rough patches in the past, but he dominated against Indiana, and Iowa State's vaunted passing attack was afraid to even throw the ball in his direction. So far, his season is reminiscent of Josh Jackson in 2017. Jackson went from not doing much of anything as a Hawkeye to First Team All-American in the course of one offseason..

As always, the Boilermaker aerial assault will be a huge challenge for the Hawkeyes, but Iowa fans feel good about the personnel in the defensive backfield. I think the bigger question mark will be how Iowa's defensive line will perform. Other than VanValkenburg, they were pretty young coming into the year. They've performed well so far, but they weren't facing top offensive lines.

I’m strictly going back to how easily Terry Wright got past him in 19 unless I have the wrong guy

C'mon man....it's Iowa. Their fans, much like iu basketball fans, will start claiming they've got a national championship caliber team until they get rolled a few times.
They might be a decent team, but they're not in the class of the top half of the SEC.

Top half of the SEC in 2020 by record:
1) Alabama
2) Texas A&M
3) Florida
4) Auburn
5) Missouri
6) LSU
7) Ole Miss

Want to rethink what you just said? I'd take Iowa over Missouri, Ole Miss, and LSU right now. And probably Auburn. They'd get beat by Alabama. But it's not like Florida and Texas A&M have shown they're championship caliber either...

I'd put Iowa at about #7 on that list.

I don’t buy yet that Iowa is a Top 5 team. They’ve got the defense and special teams to be ranked there, but there are too many questions on offense.

Petras is fine if there’s no pressure and he can throw to the primary receiver, but otherwise he struggles. The offensive tackles are talented but inexperienced and they didn’t play particularly well against Iowa State. Is there enough speed at receiver to truly pressure defenses vertically?

They aren't top 5, but they beat 2 ranked teams, 1 on the road, in pretty convincing final scores.
