Iowa State hires Campbell of Toledo to be Head Coach

I think that's a bad move by Campbell.
I State evidently gave him Hazell-like numbers and has already committed to a facilities upgrade. I State has never been a Big12 factor. They are not dissimilar to K State before the present coach there took over. He built K State to the point where he could stay there post-mortem. Maybe Campbell thinks that he could do the same.

On the surface, an unusual move for Campbell, but maybe not.

tough place to recruit to but I see what you are sayin , one of my favorite coaches, Mike Leach got WSU to 8-4 this year and Pullman isn't an easy place to recruit to

Leach was my first choice to replace Hope.
They also lost their qb for the last game at UW.
Would have loved to have him here. No way it's easier to recruit to Pullman WA than West Lafayette.

I was referring to Ames, IA. as a tough place to recruit to in regards to Campbell going there. Purdue was a perfect spot for Leach. It has the QB history, Leach's rapport w/ Texas H.S coaches and Leach was only interested in going to a place where a rebuilding had to be done.

Leach's teams never have a running game and historically his teams are very poor on defense. His defense was better this year after getting a new DC, I believe.

Perhaps true - but they went 8-4 in a pretty solid Pac12 conference - believe they have 5 ranked teams and as many as ten teams of the twelve over .500.
I'd take that with a wide open offense in a heartbeat.
