Stated he has played for and been around Danny Hope throughout his career. Might be reading too much into his comment, but he sought out coach Hope for the job at the last minute. I wonder if he discussed O.L. coach opportunity? When Coach Hope had the OL from 1997 to 2001, they were a formidable group during his tenure and they protected the Franchise QB Drew Brees quite well during that timeframe.

If I were Hope I don't think I'd come back here in a lesser capacity. I think that would be too much pride for me to swallow.
So go back to G5 for significantly less $$$... head coach you probably don't like as much as Brohm, farther away from your Kentucky home....just for pride reasons?

Not coaching at all apparently was preferable to coaching G5 last season so you might want to factor that option in there as well. He may not need to coach anywhere to make ends meet.

Health issue was the reason Hope didn't coach last year.

A high percentage of football coaches are wired a little differently than the average person in corporate world. Having enough to retire early is rarely the goal. Coaching is a powerful drug for many of them....and they can't just walk away from it.

Has the health issue been resolved?

Carl Torbush, who has been the Head Coach of the local start-up ETSU walked away from coaching due to cancer, but he came back to be the coach of a start-up program.
