Yes, THAT Georgia State is bowl-eligible for the first time in FBS with a 6-6, the team that before this season had 0 wins over FBS opponents. So it shows that any program can change, and hopefully someday Purdue can go to a bowl game again.

Just for comparison, Trent Miles is 7-30 at Georgia State and he went 0-12 and 1-11 his first two years. In the same time, Darrell Hazell is 6-30 and with less wins against FBS programs. Georgia State is fairly new program with almost no history, but Purdue has close to a 150 year history. Tell me what's wrong with this picture.

Purdue might have been bowl eligible if they had GSU's conference schedule.
Would they have beat Georgia Southern(who stomped Bowling Green) though? I honestly think we'd have trouble beating Georgia State this season. Also it doesn't matter what your strength of schedule is, it's about what you show on the field.

I follow GSU closely (I graduated from both Purdue and GSU), and yeah, you may be right. GSU's QB was impressive, and I could see the Boilers struggling against State.

too many bowl games, have a hard time believing that any 5-7 team should be rewarded, still haven't convinced myself that a 6-6 team should also.

I don't believe there are too many bowls. I believe we've found the perfect equilibrium

We KNOW that Purdue CAN be bowl eligible again but until MB is gone WILL it ever be bowl eligible again???? Don't think so.

yep. dont have a problem with 6-6 teams going but 5-7 dont like but at least it was only 3 teams
This year is an anomaly, usually you'd have a bunch of teams eligible, but don't get in a bowl. One year 8-4 Western Kentucky didn't make a bowl game.

not really an anomaly. they keep adding bowl games. they added more this year. 40 bowl games now. which means 80 teams out of 128 will make a bowl. no chance a 8 win team doesnt go anymore. you will have 5-7 teams every year

How many more bowl games need to be created to allow 3-9 teams in?

If anyone cares to pay attention to the body of work that Trent Miles has completed from one program to the next, Purdue would be stupid not to hire him as their next coach. He revived ISU from the dead and beat NDS at their place and now has taken a very new GSU program and got them into a bowl.
Not the sexy or big name and may not have "The Master Plan" but certainly has the blue print for salvaging train wrecked football programs.
Not bad for a Indiana boy!!

I haven't read anything about the Purdue Master Plan that indicates coaching has anything to do with a winning program. Just build more new facilities and renovate the old and it will take care of itself.

Funny, I was just thinking he'd be worth a look if/when Purdue actually hires a new coach.
