In order to beat MSU

we will need to change our line up. We need Vince and NojeI to contest Miles at the small forward and Haarms to take on JJJ at the power forward. I am not worried about Ward. Issac will have him in foul trouble in 4 minutes. JJJ is a mismatch for Vince being taller and quicker where as Haarms would be taller and from what I have seen as quick as JJJ. I love Dakota but I think he would be physically over matched against Miles but Vince and Nojel have the muscle and length to give Miles fits. In order for this to work Ewing and Taylor needs to show that they can contribute for 3 - 4 minutes at a time hope in the next three of four games (Not Butler) that Painter will get extended minutes for Ewing and Taylor during meaningful game time to see if they can work at the PF and C respectively. Carsen/ Thompson and Mathis/Cline rotating in the other two positions. I know changing rotations is frowned upon but this could destroy the MSU pregame prep since this would be the first time we would have tried it. Your throughts.

I can't think of much of a scenario where they go into East Lansing and win a game. Possible yes, but extremely unlikely IMO. Mich St is extremely talented, athletic, and above all well coached. They are thinking one thing this year, National Championship where last year Purdue was thinking B10 Championship. Great year for Purdue last season, another great start and year in making. Realistically this is L staring right at you at East Lansing. Mackey??? Would give them a fair shot.

It is well thought-out. My 1st reaction was no guts, no glory. On the other hand, this is all defensively focused. Mathias is both a leader and a scorer. None if the non-starters have shown close to the ability to play well against a top three team. I don't see any reward and high risk... Not considering emotions and chemistry

Painter will likely try to make them match up to us and our game before he attempts to match up to them.
IMHO, we go in there as is and let the seniors guide us to victory. It’s going to be physical and a shoot out. If we hit our shots, we can win. MSU is going to score, we need to score more.

I tend to agree. That MSU defense is too good if you don’t spread them out. Their interior defense is the best in college basketball, from what I’ve seen.

IMO got to have your best players getting the most minutes. Carsen and PJ splitting time doesn’t accomplish that. Plus I wouldn’t want to rearrange lineups and rotations just for one game. Now, if the argument is Ewing and Taylor need to get more PT the next couple weeks for the sake of building depth and resting the starters, I agree 100%.

This team’s big weakness, imho, is rebounding. And that is what msu emphasizes. Unless Boilers are shooting extremely well advantage msu.
We can win if we pound it inside to Haas, keep him out of foul trouble, and then hit a bunch of threes when they double him. And play defense and rebound while doing so.

Will MSU double Haas? Will JJJ guard Haas or will they have a Tillman,Ward Shilling and Goings to run the court for quick downs, have four bodies for energy and try to shut down Pursues perimeter?

This is, as always, true. Although not having a strategic game plan nearly always results in a loss.
Lots of games to win before game planning for M$U. Stumble a couple of times by looking too far forward and today's game planning won't matter.
