This will be a simple thread not designed for a lot of comments ..

I'm pissed. For a myriad of reasons. I sincerely, deeply, and passionately hope Matt and every single player is as pissed as I am. If so, good .... This game may well define our season. Others think not,and I totally understand why. BUT!!! ... If it pisses off every single person on the bench,, then it will define it. And if it doesn't, it may still define it.

No need to comment ... Just venting, and I am a pretty glass is very full guy.

Pissed at being taller yet being out-rebounded. Pissed at being out-hustled. Pissed at looking out-manned. Pissed that the crappy game ending call wasn't challenged. I don't think we looked confident or cocky today.

As a player and a coach, I always hated losing. But, as a coach I also know that sometimes an early loss can turn out to be a blessing instead of a curse. Let's see how they rebound. They'll either be motivated by it, or they'll be decimated by it. Barnes is still one of the best in the game.

I'm pissed because this tournament was the perfect opportunity to get the kind of OOC wins that pay huge dividends on selection Sunday. Instead, we shit the bed and now will play lousy teams that do nothing for us.

This will bite us come March and I don't want to hear any crying about not getting the kind of seed we "deserve".

This. I more upset about not having the opportunity to play Villanova in a revenge game than losing today. Losses happen, but this one cost Purdue opportunity playing one or 2 top 5 teams

I'm pissed , at all the experts on this board getting my hopes up every single year saying this is going to be our year. and every year we lay an egg against a mediocre team, and all the hype and hopes are replaced by bad memories and doubts.

and this team becomes the same exact team it's always been - a top 20 team with no hopes of being anything better. Sure, with it's schedule, it will win 20+ games, but not the ones that matter. My hope now is that we'll beat Butler. anything better than that will be an unexpected surprised.

an NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, this is NOT just one game. This is the exact same thing and almost the exact same players that lost to an inferior, but decent Michigan team 9 months ago. These players and coaches learned nothing from that loss! NOTHING !

Okay I listened on the radio and haven't had time to read many of the posts since. Our broadcast crew mentioned several times we looked tired. Really? In the first game of 3? Why? Also, it seems to me, again from Cliz and Blackmon's call, we got out muscled on the boards especially the first half. We obviously need someone to be an enforcer. Did Haas have a terrible game or was he beat up enough that it just seemed that way. It seems the refs let them play and we couldn't match that. Did Ewing get in? I haven't seen the box yet. Foul disparity is one thing but unforced turnovers are self destructive. Pissed? Yes. Frustrated? Definitely. Discouraged? Maybe. Move on and win the next game.
 
I thought the officiating really sucked, but as a team they have to play harder than the team they play and overcome it. The 2 no call's off the steal and fast break in OT with about 2:30 on the clock nearly sent me into orbit. Mathias was on his ass on the court after having the shit fouled out of him just looking at the ref with his arms up in disbelief. That should have been an and one (Take your pick on which foul to call cuz we were fouled on both shot attempts). I have seen football games less violent than that. Matt Haarms looked like he went a few rounds with a heavy weight.

We play UofL on the 28th. We can still get a quality win against a ranked team.
 
Quite honestly I'm over it already. Was it a bad loss that didn't need to happen ? Sure. But with so many games left, getting hung up on this just isn't in my DNA.

Time to pick ourselves up ... Take things one game at a time and see what happens come March. One thing is certain, whether we won or not, there is no way you can wrap a whole season up in this game.

I am concerned that Nojel and Ewing don’t seem to factor in to the team.

Very concerning.

I'm over it too, because I can't do anything about it. My post suggested that a lot can result from this .... it can be great results, or not great results ... and we may not know for a while.... but this was such a great opp to be special. damnit.

That is true. Refs are like fans from different areas of the country. Some have a different version of basketball than others. These refs were gonna let them play...other refs wouldn't. Since Purdue can't control the refs, they have to control how they play...and as obvious as the physical play was...Purdue contributed to it by dumb offensive play.
 
I'm pissed that my hope for any enjoyment from Purdue athletics this weekend now resides in the hands of Hazzell's recruits.

I have been saying this for 10 months now. Let Vince play 20 minutes at the 4, BUT put a big man there too for 20 minutes. Against elite teams and in the tournaments the refs let players play.

If in foul trouble, we can even use Eifert as an enforcer to go in and bang at the 4 with Vince at the 3. Against TN, we had to be more physical and box out.

I don't know about minutes split and such...but I think Purdue needs to have some other options than 1 big playing. I also don't know that Vince couldn't go to the 3 in the right situations as well. As I mentioned all last week...I just like options when things go to smash mouth and Purdue is struggling...
