If we can't stop Minnesota's "Big Girl" who has 15-11 in the

Gophers lose their best player and do not miss a beat as they come into our house and now hold a 64-52 lead with less than 8 minutes left.

Our women's basketball program is now above average in a good year. There are going to be lots of teams that beat us this year.

It is the curse of being a revenue sport at Purdue. Burke is interested in other things, and our revenues sports are irrelevant.

This team needs to learn how to play defense and find some consistent outside shooting. If they don't they will not win many games.

They still look lost most of the time on offense and Wilson got pulled due to getting beat then putting her head down and not getting back on defense. That attitude is contagious, unfortunately. These ladies need confidence, a floor leader, and a go-to scorer. We have not found any of the above on a consistent basis. Until we do, frustration.

We have descended to completely ordinary. Remember, we supposedly have had nine straight Top 25 recruiting classes. Do you see any evidence of that kind of alleged talent on our roster?

This was a disturbing loss. It showed its head at Illinois where we blew a big lead and would have lost if the Illini did not miss 7of 8 FTS.The interior defense was atrocious. Minn did what they wanted inside at will, Not used to this at all. If they don't figure it out they will be a middle of the pack team at best. Minnesota totally outplayed us on our home court. They had not won there in 8 years and they beat us badly. This was no fluke. I guess we'll see soon what this team is made of. Home games against Indiana and Wisconsin are sandwiched in between road tilts with Maryland, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. The way we are playing looks like 2-4 at best in these games. Gut check time.

The game stories all talk about our poor defense and our inability to score enough points to compensate for defensive shortcomings. Isn't the obvious question, how did a team with a coach in her 9th season, which each year claims to have a Top 25 recruiting class, reach a point where it has nobody who can consistently score points and shoot the basketball with a high degree of proficiency?

Destewart, that is a good question and there are no obvious answers to it. But that is the reality. Hard to see how this team is going to win any of those tough road games which will put them in a shaky place to even make the NCAA. Under Coach V, quite a few times, her teams have won tough road games when they were not expected to, but, even if they do, that does not take away from the question you asked. We do not have consistent shooters and have virtually no bench. The interior D is non-existent. Our scoring is mostly Bays and Clemens and sometimes Perry with occasional spurts from Morrisette. Wilson has shown little offensively. Next year, minus Bays and Clemens and with such vast inexperience on the front line, it is hard to see how this team will be much better. I know you have been recording the downturn of this program for years and it looks like you were right. Maybe this newbees will turn if around, but it is certainly not apparent. Too bad.

IMO, we can't "stop Minnesota's Big Girl" because we didn't really try. There was an incredible and, to me, very obvious lack of energy throughout the entire team, at both ends of the floor. Slow and off the mark on offense, slow and flat footed on defense. VERY disappointing. I think this team is better than that, but don't know if they are going to pull together to prove it.. What the h did they do on New Year's Eve, anyway??
