Yeah, this is what we hear every year. The FINAL of the B1G tournament likely won't matter unless a team that is completely out of the at-large running gets that far. But, Friday's quarterfinal and maybe even Saturday's semifinal could matter. This is Purdue's closing argument. Better make it count. The prevailing opinion is that the BTT final doesn't matter in the eyes of the committee. They would have to have a contingency in place if say, Ohio State made it to the final, but otherwise it's pretty set by then. So back up a day, and we can ask the question again.
I wouldn't think UCLA, Alabama, Houston, Kansas and Purdue all playing on Saturday would affect anything. If Purdue is a #2 seed at that point, nothing from then on will change that. But it's unclear if that is in fact the case with the committee.
Too many moving parts to predict.
In your scenario, Purdue would likely garner a #1 seed but there is a lot of BB to be played before NCAA tournament.
And also moving parts in the bracket, which is why I think it wouldn't happen based on BTT championship result for Sunday, right before the bracket is announced.
They have almost all of the bracket/seeds/regions done Saturday. To move a #1 to a #2 and vice-versa isn't usually just flipping two spots.....then it potentially affects the conference teams rules and geographical preferences. If Purdue is a #1 vs. #2, it would likely mean playing in a different region.
It's one of the dwindling things I agree with Bilas on - use championship week for automatic qualifiers, but set the seeding and at-large field based on regular season.....but I know, I'm a dang dinosaur.
So my kid and I are doing a little game picking all the conference tournaments. Can't pick the same team, and we go back and forth with who picks first. Using my company's odds to calculate who wins. So we got to the Big 10 this morning and I got to pick first. At first, I wasn't going to take Purdue. But then I was picturing anyone else winning and I just couldn't do it so I took Purdue at +150. He took MSU at +700.
The list:
Purdue +150
Indinia +500
Michigan St +700
Northwestern +700
Maryland +800
Iowa +1100
Illinois +1800
Michigan +1800
Rutgers +2000
Penn St +3000
Wisconsin +4000
Nebraska +9000
Ohio St +9000
Minnesota +20000
Admittedly, Michigan State was probably my choice if I didn't take Purdue. But I think psychologically I didn't want my kid to get to take us.It’s tough to beat a team 3 times, and Michigan State is not a bad team. I am not counting out the possibility that they beat us.
And if we make it to the Finals and so does IU, we all know that will be tough.

From what I've read it would make more sense to put UCLA at a 2 in Vegas. Arizona is way better than any team not named Purdue in the Big Ten though. We'll see though. Cant imagine them not giving a 9 bid leagues regular season and tourney champs a one seed. Got to win tomorrow to even think about it.
Gavit pretty much said between games today , seeding is set at end of today.Putting aside whether they would disrupt the bracket....one other item that might help Purdue.....don't know. If Duke beats Virginia tonight and Marquette beats Xavier (leading right now), Purdue would have three really good wins over conference tourney champs (ACC, Big East, and West Coast).
11-4 Quad 1
7-1 Quad is solid
They are basically either the #1 in the EAST or the #2 in the SOUTH, regardless of tomorrow's result. If UCLA beats Arizona again tonight, that might be the decider. I still don't think the BTT championship will be factored in.
JMHO.....should be an interesting bracket breakdown tomorrow.
It's been a lonnnnnnnng season......haha.
You hit it Tex. If UCLA beats Arizona tonight I think they get the #1. Lose, and I think we get it.Putting aside whether they would disrupt the bracket....one other item that might help Purdue.....don't know. UCLA is the hottest team in the country and I dont think anyone is better than them RN honestly. Lets go Texas! The last thing I want is UCLA or Arizona to be the two seed in Purdue's region though. You hit it Tex. If UCLA beats Arizona tonight I think they get the #1. Lose, and I think we get it.
Purdue is already a #1 seed...And two other number one seeds lose the championship game in their tourney, will Purdue be a number one seed?
