I'm OK with it. He was not choice #1, but I believe he is a better hire than Fleck. Brohm has the right resume for Purdue (QB!!), and will bring the type of offensive style that will be necessary to compete early on, and then build.

The obvious #1 was Miles, but that was never going to happen. That was just a dream. #2 IMO would have been Schiano, who Oregon would be smart to snatch up. Then you had this group including Brohm, Fleck, and Calhoun. I had a feeling Bobinski wanted Calhoun, but am just glad he wasn't blinded by all the Fleck hooplah.

I'll take Brohm. I just hope he can recruit. Early offensive fireworks and a few wins would help a lot.

If Brohm wins this weekend, he will be 30-10 at WKU in 3 seasons. That's an average of 10 wins per season. I would be very satisfied with this hire. May not be the best out there, but I will be happy.

Hell of a lot easier to win 10 in a weak C-USA conference than it is to win 10 in the B10. Just sayin'
I know you want Les Miles, and dislike Fleck, Brohm, Sumlin. That's fine. But we won't get Miles, so who would you rather have?

What type off offense does he run? What college from P5 conference run similar offense to Brohm?

If it is Brohm, do you think he can bring any of his staff with him? Tiller indicated in his interview that that what allowed him to hit the ground running -- they all knew one another and the interpersonal relationships between them was already worked out.

You mean a weak conference USA that beat Purdue the last time they played? I would venture to say WKU would have placed above Purdue and Illinois in the West this season and probably would have placed above MSU, IU, and Rutgers in the east. The upper G5 teams every year like WMU, WKU, Boise, and AFA would probably be able to compete in the B1G for a middle of the road division placement and a bowl game every year. Just the facts with scholarship limits and increased funding.

Tiller averaged 6.5 wins in the WAC and 7.25 wins in the BIG.

To be fair, though, the winning percentages of both DH1 and DH2 dropped when they moved from lower-tier schools to Purdue.

I guess you never really know how well a coach is going to do at Purdue until he starts coaching games. That's probably true of every candidate in the pool.

Good post. Unfortunately some folks will not be happy unless we get a "name" coach, regardless of the realities of Purdue. Even more unfortunate is the idea of just throwing money at a problem and hoping it fixes it instead of finding the right fit for the character of the program and the University as a whole. Last thing we need is a messy relationship and breakup like at IU.

He's a Bobby Petrino protege'. He runs whats called a "feed the studs" offense. Most of his background has been with what you would call a pro style offense: Classic pocket passer with a good RB to keep things in balance. But the offense is tailored to best exploit the studs in any given season. Whomever your best players are, the offense will be built around what they do best. As the personnel and the stars change, so will the offense. Petrino always ran a pro style when he could, but when he got Lamar Jackson he switched to a spread that takes full advantage of a dual threat QB.

You'll get the same with Brohm: He'll do everything he can to build the offense around the most talented players. Petrino literally calls it "feed the studs" and Brohm was his right hand man for years.

Well he was OC/QB for Bobby Petrino at both UoL and WKU.

Jeff wasn't a QB under Petrino. His younger brother Brian (WKU's QB coach) was. Jeff graduated before Petrino got there. He was Petrinos OC. at WKU. I think he was on staff with Petrino at Arkansas, but not positive.

Brohm is an Offensive whiz no doubt, he can recruit pretty well at WKU. Purdue being in the West division helps.
Brohm is an excellent QB coach, if E Sindelar is still around, former Kentucky Mr. Football, he may work wonders with him. Could be a very good hire for the Boilers.

If he is "the guy", I hope he can bring as many asst. coaches as he can, I would think that is part of his bargaining process, and the asst's will get a nice bump in pay. Continuity is so important to hit the "dirt" running, everybody's terminology is the same....
This could be huge

I'm stoked , we will not be considered an easy W for opposing teams anymore, starting monday will begin the climb out of the dark ages.

TOUCHE!

all the x's and o's in the world wont win ball games without good players. we need to find a coach that can recruit kids to come to purdue.

yeah, you got to be pretty happy if they are able to get him. I am sure with his high power offense style he would attract some recruits. Purdue would be known for their offense once again.
