While it's probably not legal for him to make a direct payment like that to AOC thru the NIL to come back for another year, I'd be doing anything I can to figure out a way to get big money into AOC's pockets because NO ONE benefits more from AOC coming back than Brohm. AOC's emergence has likely directly increased Brohm's future earnings by well over $10 million. Returning could stretch the number north of $25 million.
Go back six weeks. We were on our way to winning 4-6 games this year. Brohm was appearing near the top of Hot Seat rankings. Many on here were calling for his head during their weekly in-game meltdowns.
If AOC didn't exist, Brohm likely wouldn't have been fired on the back of 4-6 wins due to the cost, but enthusiasm for our program would've been muted going into next season. We'd be losing Bell and Karlaftis. Recruiting is trending down from the two-year peak in 2018-19. 2022 ticket sales would be down considerably- maybe we'd average 40,000 a game instead of what will likely be a full season of 57k sellouts. The program could generate an extra $4 million+ from ticket sales alone next year due to where we sit today compared to where it looked like we'd be.
Now we are seeing multiple threads each day declaring it's time to re-up Brohm and be ready to fight to bat away any interest if his number gets called on the coaching carousel.
He signed a guaranteed 7 year/$36.8 million deal after the 2018 season. He has 4 years left on the deals, so likely around $21 million. If we finished 2021 with 4-6 wins, he would not be getting any more guaranteed money right now, and the rancor in the fan base would be palpable if we didn't get to 7+ wins next season (which is lined up to be our peak for the next few years).
If he gets re-upped in the next couple months, which it sounds like may happen, he'll likely get a raise and more guaranteed years. 5 years at $6 million a year gives him an extra $9 million guaranteed. Perhaps he'll get more years than that.
If AOC comes back and stays healthy, we will likely win 8-10 games next year. If we win 10, Brohm will likely be a hot candidate for the top jobs that open up around the country. The bar is quickly rising for what those schools will pay to get their guy. We all saw what Tucker got. Brohm could be looking at offers of around 8 years and $60 million.
Plus, if AOC comes back, back-to-back great seasons in 2021-2022 could help recruiting reach or even surpass where it was in 2018-19. If it doesn't, we could regret a new Brohm deal in 2-4 years. But that's another topic.
If AOC doesn't come back, we will likely win 4-7 games unless Brady Allen is a transcendent freshman. And then we lose a lot of key seniors at the end of 2022, so we would likely be stuck in the middle for a few years from there.
So going back to the original premise of this thread, if I'm Brohm I am doing anything I can within the rules to get AOC the most money I can offer to come back. Beg Rohrman to give him a big sponsorship deal and agree to dress up like Bob used to and do some spots with AOC? Check to see if it'd be legal to write a large donation to AOC's church?
