Me and about 6 buddies are heading to WL for the Husker game this year and I was hoping you guys could share some info.

1. What bars should we hit for sure
2. Do they open early and is that pajama thing still a big deal?
3. What tickets do we need to purchase to be in the area where you can drink in the stadium
4. Where should we tailgate at?

Many Husker fans are already jealous of your coaching hire. The attitude of your team already looks so much different! I predict a fun game!

welcome! i'm really looking forward to this game myself as well. Brohm and his assts. have been incredible so far

based on your post, i'm guessing your group is pretty young (20s)? if so, here are my recommendations (i'm over 30, married with kids, so my info might be a bit dated fyi)

1. Harry's Chocolate Shop is the most famous bar and a must-visit for newcomers. the strange name is due to the fact it was a speakeasy during prohibition. it's loud and SRO on gamedays, so take that into account. it's always on the "top 20 college bars" lists that come out. Otherwise, Jake's is right next door and has been there forever, Brother's is good, and there's a newer place called 308 next door, but i haven't been so will defer to others on that one.

2. yes and yes. Harry's is the main breakfast club bar these days i think, maybe where else?

3. Beer is served stadium wide this year! the south end zone has the beer tent area (before this season, that was the only area serving beer). Make sure you try the Boiler Gold beer

4. Tons of areas to choose from: the intramural fields are the cheapest/easiest, and slayter hill, golf course, etc. also possible. i will warn you from personal experience that it's almost impossible to do both breakfast club and tailgating on the same day, just my opinion.

Thanks so much! We are actually in our 40's but this is our weekend to all get away and have fun again! Ha

I have heard of Harry's, can't wait to check it out!

Is there a Greek Row? I always like seeing the houses when I am on a new campus.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. I think we will probably end up hitting more bars than anything else.

Purdue has the third largest greek system so the beautiful mansions are located all over campus. Their is one area called Slayter Hill which is a greek row type feel right up from the stadium.

Enjoy and Boiler Up!

1. Don't forget The Neon Cactus on Saturday Night if you plan to stay after the game to visit The Pianoman Bruce Barker.
2. Breakfast Club is big down at The Cactus and Where Else as well. Other than The Cactus, the campus bars are all close together (308 on State, Brothers, Where Else, Harry's).
3. echoed above
4. I don't really tailgate much but the golf course (Ackerman-Allen) is a great place if you can get a pass for it. If not, the Intramural Lots are great places for a good tailgate that won't cost a lot to park.

Don't do the breakfast club unless you drink beer for breakfast on a regular basis and don't really care whether or not you see the football game.

Bruno's has the top pizza and best after-game atmosphere. Go to Arni's if Bruno's is packed.

For more hearty food go to McGraw's south of town on the Wabash River. Formerly "Stiney's", it really captures the local culture for better or worse. Good eats and the waitresses smell OK.

Dude, screw all that nonsense!

You've got to get in touch with your coaching staff, AND NOW!

Harbaugh didn't like the accommodations. Dammit, brother, it's a MORAL IMPERATIVE!

WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?!

The locker room didn't have A/C!

THE FRIGGIN' LOCKER ROOM!

Call the ACLU!

Notify Homeland Security!

THIS CANNOT STAND!

If U friggin' M isn't catered to with A/C and Perrier, what the HECK can the peasants expect??!

David Ross Rd has a lot of fraternities and sororities, as well as tower dr (both roads are west of the stadium).

As already mentioned there is a strip of bars (Harry's, Jake's, etc) on Chauncey hill. If you feel like venturing into Lafayette, the Lafayette Brewing Co., Black Sparrow, and Chumley's are all good bars to check out. Hope you have a fun time!

The "Where Else" bar looks like it is pretty cool. I think it said it opens at 7am on game day, just wondering, does it fill up pretty quickly? Like, if we were there by 8am will it be a good atmosphere?

Thanks for the info on the frats, I appreciate that! We just bought tickets, End Zone row 4.

Another place is XXX on The Hill not a porno place but great hamburgers and breakfast. No credit cards and cash only. On game day and even Friday will be packed.

Breakfast club in my experience was people elbow to elbow drinking cheap screwdrivers dipped out of a 55 gallon trash can they made the night before. You may have to stand in line if you get there at 8. People usually start lining up to get in between 6-6:30

I went to the Purdue game in Lincoln last year - I hope you receive the hospitality Husker fans afforded me and my family on game day. Wonderful game day experience and wonderful people.

We went to Lincoln 3 years ago and had the same experience. Indiana born and raised and there are great people here, but you’ve got to visit Iowa and Nebraska to see true hospitality first hand.

That is great to hear! We like sharing our beers and food with other fans! I have heard PSU and OSU are horrible. I have been to Minny, Wisconsin, NW and IL and they were all really good too.

I guess another question, for the most part are the bars on game day mostly students or is it a big mix? In Lincoln it is really a big mix of all ages, like 19 (i guess they have fakes!) to 90.

big mix is my impression, other than breakfast club

A few years ago I convinced a friend who is an Illinois grad to join me for a Boiler Illini game. We were in our early 60s at the time and hit the Breakfast Club scene (not at 6 though) and post game as well and had an absolutely great time. Students were great, even to the guy with the Illini jacket. He still laughs out loud whenever we talk about it.
Certainly hope you and your friends find it equally enjoyable at Purdue.

When our oldest daughter was at Purdue we went to Purdue for an InDiana and Purdue home basketball game. Couldn't get tickets but went to Harry's for the game. It was a great time and I have to think iylt would be the same atmosphere this Saturday morning.

Awesome! Thanks so much guys for all the info, I really appreciate it. This will be our first time to Purdue (even though I grew up in Chicago) and we are really excited for it all. Not only do I think it will be a great game but we are even more excited to just check out the atmosphere and have fun.

I've been to two Purdue games at Penn State. They were the most gracious and friendliest fans that I've ever seen. The worst were ND, Michigan and Indiana.
I am glad to hear that! I am sure it was just isolated incidents that turned a few people off about PSU.

McGraws is really good (but little on expensive side). Check their website, AND MAKE A RESERVATION if you decide to try. Friday night maybe not as crowded. It's on South River Road, kinda "hidden" (hard to see if you aren't careful) down towards the river, a few miles south from State Street. Enjoy your visit.

I went to the game Purdue won at PSU in 2004. The PSU fans were friendly and gracious before and after the game. It was the best away game experience I have ever had.

Well...I am thinking more and more that you guys are going to beat the tar out of us. It is amazing to see what a really good coach can do, even in his first year at a new school. Many of us Husker fans are jealous of your hire!

Husker fan here coming up as well for the game.

Can someone help me out with RV parking? Thought I read there is a lot west of the stadium that you can get into Friday night on a first come first serve basis. Is this correct?

Excited we get a night game!
