Hunter cancels Minnesota visit

I'm a little old to get involved in the whole twittersphere thing, but for some of you youngsters, do many of these recruits respond when someone sends them a tweet (that sounds odd)? I see a lot of back/forth between fans but does the recruit see it as well. I did notice Trevion Williams doing a nice job of helping to recruit Hunter. Hope it pays off.

Sometimes they do, it really depends on what is asked I have seen players have more than one account so they can respond to jerks using that and no one is the wiser, well, at first.

Social media is probably one of the biggest tools for recruiting now.

Perhaps I'm just that out of touch, but how long have the recruiting sites been rating guys all the way in the 125-150 range as 4-star prospects? I see Hunter is #126 on Rivals and #136 on 24/7, and a 4-star on both sites. Not listed in ESPN's top 100, but he's a 4-star there, too.

I imagine it has everything to do with drawing in more readers when they can write an update on the 4-star recruit as opposed to the mere 3-star recruit.

One service I saw think it was rivals had 4 stars to 128 then it went to 3 stars. But it might vary.

I think it is more based on the "scores" that are assigned to them. If they "earn" a score higher than X, then they are a 4-star. I do think we are all finding out that there are far more highly skilled players now than a few years ago.

As we all have debated forEVER, do stars truly predict future wonderfulness???? SO, by running more into the higher star-rating, it does allow the probability that a 120 ranked player turns out better than a 90 ranked player. Who can predict the difference in success between 90 and 120? Especially based on style of play and conference level of play and changes in coaching. I saw today that a 5-star committed to George Washington. Will he end-up being a better player in two years than a mid-ranked 4-star? Who can possible determine that?

I checked a couple of composites and they have him as a 4-star. But they are based on the same ranking that you mention ... so ...

Looks like that duck HUNTER might be headed our way rather than following that Duck to Oregon! And when we play Oregon in the finals, this HUNTER is going to say, silly rabbit, it's Duck season !

If we get Hunter then we got 3 out of 4 of our plan A guys. At that os what it looks like to me. It would have been nice to get Langford but he was never coming anyway, so don't count him as a plan A guy.

Not only plan A, but more importantly filling. positions of immediate need with Players CMP targeted would be filled....especially @ 2 guard, a scorer as good or better that we have had since E Moore.

That's saying a lot. Carsen Edwards is a very gifted scorer.

Your point about positional need/fit is excellent. Look how many times we have seen relatively high ranked players at our southern nemesis but then see gaping holes in a position group hose them on the court. We also had that problem three and four years back when we severely lacked outside shooting.

yeah, but Matt did that somewhat out of desperation...Crean did it out of stupidity

hard to say since I've only seen video, but like Carsen I have really liked this kid. He too is a scorer, with a little more height, a little more vertical...and maybe a bit more cautioned about his shot selection. If Purdue lands him...Purdue is solid for a few years
